Known Flaws:
- The records had very few of the little dimples in the vinal and some superficial markings, none of which were of any consiquence to the sound.
- The only real flaw with this recording is that both bands deserve a complete King Biscuit Flower Hour progarm of their own.
Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove test tone at the beginning of Side A for radio stations to set output levels before broadcast. It was not encoded.
- King Biscuit put 2 locked groove show promos at the end of Side C. Those are included
- Albums looked very clean upon visual inspection.
Editing Notes:
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth, Pressure & Antiskid Dialed In: Soundcard stereo field maximized: Goldwave set to record while filtering any offset:
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually with some noise reduction used depending on if it best served situation.
- Some minor flaws may still show after all the work, we are after all working with vinyl sources.
Other Notes:
- Before starting this project I had never heard Mink DeVille. My immediate reaction was a sound like Clarence Clemons and Roy Brittan of The E Street Band jamming with a sober Johnny Thunders on Old School Rhythm And Blues. With just enough Garage Rock to make the music a little dangerous live, I can see how Mink Deville fit in with the Early CBGB's bands. Like a lot of those bands Mink DeVille were stuck with the Punk Rock moniker. This could also explain why such a talented bands never really made it big. A lot of music listeners were "musically afraid" of anything to do with anything labeled as Punk Rock.
