JustDave's Notes:
- A huge Thank You to Sam Elliot's Mustache for sharing his ever growing Pre-FM collection with The Collective Of Live Music for encoding!!

Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove "Ovu" Test Tone at the beginning of Side A for DJs to set levels before airing the program. It has been encoded and place in it's own folder so as not to be played accidently.
- There are 2 locked groove music promo beds at the end of Side B, one with a Bill Minkin voiceover one without. They have been encoded and moved to the end of the program.
- This show comes from recordings made at The Royal Oak Music Theater during during both the early and late show.
- This recording was also commercially released as the VHS/DVD Live At The Royal Oak.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- Raised the volume of the commercials to match that of the music and voice overs.
- A rumble filter with an initial cut off of 50khz and a static steepness of 2 was used to lessen the needle noise on the commercials due to having to raise the volume to match that of the music and voice overs.

Other Notes:
- Todd Rundgren & Utopia actually played 2 shows at The Royal Oak Music Theater on April 3, 1981. An Early Show at 7:30 PM and a Late Show at 10:30 PM. Info from https://www.trconnection.com/todd/arcd-r/year=1981 I do not know if this recording comes from the early set, the late set, or a combination using the best sources from each, which is what you do for a live album.

Finally a stand alone version of the Earth, Wind & Fire set from California Jam 1. It was only available in an incomplete set from the radio broadcast of the complete concert. This soundboard recording sounds awesome for the it's age. It comes from the private collection of a California collector. From the story told by the uploader this collector had to have been a technician at the show. The soundboard recording also had ambient sound mikes on the stage. All my fellow Funk fans you want this one!

Anybody who has followed this blog for a while knows I have a deep love and respect for musicians who push the boundaries of music to the edges. Nils Petter Molvær's use of electronics (ie samples, loops, effects, dubs, sub woofer pumping bass tones, and even turntables on this recording) makes for one genre expanding experience. Nils Petter Molvær's music will be appreciated not only by Experimental Jazz fans but fans of Post Rock, Dub, Progressive Rock, and Krautrock as well.

What BigO Said:
Thanks to survivor69 for sharing the show at Dime.

survivor69 noted:
One of the few shows organized by the Italian RAI during 1980 from an idea of Pasquale Santoli to unite some famed soloists with RAI Big Band, here is Shepp paying tribute to the blues orchestrations of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn with some classic tunes… Also included is a LONG radio introduction in ITALIAN with bio notes and commentaries, featuring a telephone interview with original promoter Filippo Bianchi.

JustDave's notes:
Another show from the BigO Archive via The New JDP. Not saying I am or will become an official BigO archive. It is just that I have quite a bit of Jazz shows from years of visiting BigO. So when I post one of their shows I figured I would say so. This is an awesome performance...I think you all will enjoy this one!

A very good friend of mine introduced me to Beth Hart by playing some of the live recording she made with Joe Bonamassa. This recording features Beth with her own group rocking through a fine set of old school Blues influenced Rock. I really love this recording and have had it in heavy rotation  for a while now.

justdave's notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to adjust the volume and re-edit some track marks. No EQ or noise reduction was used. I seperated all the tunings and false starts from each track so that you could listen to just the songs if you so wish. I encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps because the DVD had lossy audio.

This DVD is said to be dress rehearsals for Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and seems so with there being no real audience. It is known that some bands were filmed with no audience present and then the audience was edited in later. This was confirmed by Kansas, who were on Kirshner Records. The band released their Rock Concert performance with their Sail On Box Set and talked about the filming in the intro to the DVD footage. So this could actually be a show taping. At the end of the last track the director thanks Ambrosia then tells the crew to prep the stage for John Cougar as the audio fades. They retake a few songs because of technical difficulties, if it was a dress rehearsal they wouldn't need a retake of  Your The Only Woman because of a faulty drum mic. So I really think this is an actual taping that the audience will be dubbed in. Either way it's a pretty cool glimpse behind the scenes of Don Kishner's Rock Concert.

Just like the Tool and Red Hot Chili Peppers posts This is a Before The Fame Post...U2 were just becoming known to the world when this show was recorded. I personally don't remember U2 on MTV until War was released and the "New Years Day" video came out. At any rate the band was not known that well. When I went to buy Boy at my local record store the guy behind the desk had no idea who I was talking about. Because of high energy kick ass performances like this one would soon have the world a buzz. U2 would not only conquer arenas they filled football stadiums around the world. To me it seemed like they went from Detroit's Harpo's Concert Theater to The Pontiac Silver Dome Football Arena over night. Deservedly so too!!!

Original Upload Comments:
* "The Ocean" was played twice (you can hear a very small snippet of this at the end of the second "11 0' Clock Tick Tock"), this was unfortunately left out of the broadcast
* DJ starts talking very quickly at the end of "Out of Control"

Included in this download is a soundboard recording of the bands soundcheck. It was hosted in MP3 224kbps on the drive and is included in it's own folder as a bonus to all.

This is a very nice sounding recording from Pure Prairie League's tour to promote their 7th studio LP Just Fly. This is would be the final tour of this line-up Tim & Larry Goshorn left to form The Goshorn Brothers Band while George Powell retired from the music business to become a hog farmer. Michael Reilly kept the band going eventually hooking up with Vince Gill. Alas when most people refer to Pure Prairie League it's usually for being the springboard for Vince Gill's huge career in Country Music. Vince sang lead vocals on Pure Prairie League's only Billboard Top Ten Hit "Let Me Love You Tonight". The song, which also featured saxophonist David Sanborn, would stay in the Top 40 for 11 weeks. I remember seeing Vince Gill on a game show hosted by Chuck Woolery (can't remember which one), Vince identified himself as the former singer of Pure Prairie League and an out of work song writer, can't remember if he won anything either.
