Blue Rodeo would fit right in with the California Country/Rock scene of the 1970s. They unfortunately, like many other great Canadian Music Artists, the went under the radar in America. Think of it by the luck of the draw Rush, Gordon Lightfoot, The Guess Who, etc made it. They were lucky enough to make it through that invisible wall.

So if you are one of those people who is saying "...I never heard of Blue Rodeo..." If you like the California Country/Rock scene, or Southern Rock, Alt-Country, or the type of Country Music started by Alabama back in the day... take the time to check out Blue Rodeo.

I got this from Voodo Wagon (or was it Floppy Boot Stomp) a while back. Both are great sources for bootlegs and out of print locations so should be visited often! Thanks for the great work over there guys!

As for this recording...how could you miss with a line up like that huh? Someone had the idea to take 3 of the best bass players in Jazz, put them on one stage and have them jam. Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller combine their talents to create some of the most Bass-tastic music. If you didn't get this from Floppy Boot Stomp (or was it Voodoo Wagon) get it now!

Everyone who follows the blog knows I love Jazz bands playing songs from non-Jazz songwriters. Jazz Guitarist Bill Frisell has worked with his present quartet for long enough that they didn't figure out the arraignments to the songs before entering the studio. As Bill Frisell said in an interview they "..just went for it." The album they were recording was All We Are Saying ... A Tribute To The Music Of John Lennon. The songs, though arraigned for a Jazz Quartet, are not unrecognizable. The band let the melodies of the original songs guide the arrangement. I think lovers of John Lennon solo and Beatles material will love this show, so download it, it's not a Jazzy Freak out. Jazz lovers that doesn't mean this is Muzak. It's Bill Frisell, enough said......

The last time I posted a Cannonball Adderley show it was extremely popular. I figured everybody might want at least one more show for their collection. This one I believe this recording should be in your collection as well. There is a comical little story about the song "Little Boy With The Sad Eyes" that gives you a new appreciation for the song. I hope this makes for a nice Sunday Morning Jazz listen....

Oh by the way, this recording features 2 future Legends, Charles Lloyd on sax and future Weather Reporter Josef Zawinul on piano.

01 Metal Machine Music Parts I-IV

Lou Reed (R.I.P.) processed & unprocessed guitars, mini continuum
Ulrich Krieger tenor sax, live electronics
Sarth Calhoun live processing, continuum finger board

Panned by critics, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music was deemed unlistenable by human ears. Rolling Stone said it was ..like "the tubular groaning of a galactic refrigerator" and as displeasing to experience as "a night in a bus terminal". In the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide, critic Billy Altman said it was "a two-disc set consisting of nothing more than ear-wrecking electronic sludge, guaranteed to clear any room of humans in record time."

Flash to 2010 and countless bands have cited it as a direct influence on their music. Earth, Merzbow, Boris, and SunnO))) all leaders in the Drone Doom/Drone Metal genre, give praise to this release as the birth of their genre of music. Once again Lou Reed was (White) light years ahead of everyone else.

The show is one single file but since the music is played as one continuous piece it shouldn't bother anyone.

I got this from Hear Rock City...Thanks Guys!

Something Special became their 3rd Platinum album in a row. This fabulous live Funk, Jazz, Soul, Disco Hybrid Monster never disappoints their audiences. The road is their home.

For those of you who enjoyed last weeks offering from The Nils Petter Molvær Quintet will be glad to get more from Nils this time in a trio format. This is some great genre expanding music blending together elements of Trance, Techno, & Dub with the use of a lot of electronics including loops, effects and highly processed sounds. Not For Jazz Purists but for fans of experimental music of any type I do highly recommend this show.

A great sounding recording of a fabulous live in studio appearance. The only problem is that it is way too short. But hay, you get 2 great performances and an informative interview. As the show fades the DJ says that the band was going to stick around and rehearse for the nights show. How would you have liked to have been in that studio listening to these guys jam?
