A nice sounding recording of Loggins & Messina their take on Rock & Roll which actually earned them the genre classification of Yacht Rock (what ever the hell the critics meant by that one). This is some great music in that Country Rock California Sound that every one and their brother was playing in the 1970's (although only some really pulled it off well). I've posted quite a bit of Heavy Metal lately so I figured I would swing in the opposite direction in my collection.

Not sure if this is a television or radio broadcast recording but the sound is really good.

This great sounding recording catches Finnish Progressive Metal act Amorphis on tour to promote their 7th studio album Eclipse. Eclipse was the first album to feature new vocalist Tomi Joutsen. Long time vocalist Pasi Koskinen left after the tour for the Far from the Sun release. The band had taken a direction where all traces of their Death Metal roots were purged from their music. The band's sound had progressed with every album, adding clean vocals, keyboards, and horns to the mix. With the addition of Joutsen the Death Metal elements resurfaced. The fans reaction was one of excitement driving Eclipse to #1 on the Finnish Charts. The follow up Silent Waters reached #3 while the next 3 releases all reached #1.

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow was opening for REO Speedwagon when The BBC taped this show. On the road to promote the Long Live Rock & Roll release, this would be Ronnie James Dio's last tour with Rainbow. Ritchie decided to pursue a more commercial direction for the band, leaving the sword and sorcery themes behind. Dio didn't agree with that decision and decided to leave the band. David Stone and Bob Daisley were fired and replaced with Dony Airey and Roger Glover respectively. To replace the departed Dio, Blackmore first attempted to convince Ian Gillan to join him. Gillan refused and Blackmore hired Graham Bonnett. In 1997 Cozy Powell convinced Blackmore and Dio to reform the Rainbow Rising line-up. It was to be a one tour reunion, alas Cozy Powell's death in 1998 kept this reunion from happening.

Formed in Helsinki Finland in 1993 when 3 graduates of Sibelius Academy, a music institution, gathered to play Metallica covers. The band released their debut album Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos in 1996. The album was just what it said, 8 Metallica tracks played on four cellos, and not as Muzac either, this band plays Heavy Metal! Following releases have contained original music as well as covers from Faith No More, Sepultura, and Pantera. This short FM broadcast catches 3 of the bands originals plus blistering covers of Sepultura's "Refuse/Resist" and Metallica's "Master Of Puppets". The sound is very good, showing both the the bands power and subtleties. The band to date has sold over 4 million albums.

Well it's been a labor of love rebuilding the site from scratch after the little snafu, but we are finally up and running again. I had contemplated putting the site on a GoDaddy url but right now my finances just will not allow that option. It may happen in the future, I will keep you posted as that situation develops. Take a look around all the old favorites are here as well as some new stuff. Rosebud and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words when we disappeared. Sorry it's taken so long to get this thing back up and running but I didn't have a back up when things whent down, I won't let that happen again. Thank you all for your patience during the long wait. This show was actually supposed to be released by the band, but was shelved after their breakup. Tom Gabriel Fischer has stated that it will never officially see the light of day, because he dosen't want drummer Franco Sesa to make anymore money off the Celtic Frost name. The diferances between the 2 was the catalist for the breakup, as Martin Ain took Sesa's side in the disagreement, prompting Fisher to leave the band. The band was officially put to rest in 2008.

Decent soundboard recording from the Born Again Tour, though not quite as pristine sounding as Worchester or Reading Festival boots. The Reading Festival show has been released as a bonus disc to the anniversary re-release of  Born Again.

Musicians are always getting drunk together and saying .."We should do a project together".. this short lived line up (one LP, one tour) of Black Sabbath was the result of one such night. Not meant to be Black Sabbath but a soupergroup with an identity of it's own. Gillan had disbanded his solo group under the pretense of losing his voice, but actually to re-form Deep Purple. The legal battles that needed to be fought with ex-Purple vocalist Rod Evans put the Purple reunion on hold (see story below), so Gillan had time for the Iommi/Butler/Gillan project. Many things factored into Gillan's decision to end the collaboration after the world tour. An eleventh hour decision by the record company to call the project Black Sabbath, the final (terrible) mix of the album, the horrible Devil Baby cover art, and a practical joke perpetrated by Iommi and Butler at the Reading Festival. They thought it a funny idea to set Ian's tent on fire, Ian was still inside at the time. The call came from Deep Purple's lawyers and Ian bolted.

Jeff Healey was only a year old when illness caused his eyes to be removed. He began playing guitar at the age of three, developing early his trademark style of laying the guitar in his lap. He formed his first band at 15. Jeff's career took off in 1988 when he released the very successful See The Light album. It spawned two singles, "Angel Eyes" and the Grammy nominated "Hideaway". In 1988 Jeff was also tapped to record the soundtrack to the Patrick Swayze movie Roadhouse. The Jeff Healey Band was included in many bar scenes and Jeff had some speaking parts as well. Jeff passed away at the age of 41, from cancer, he been plagued with the disease most of his life.

During his years as a solo artist Ozzy Osbourne has had a reputation for finding guitar players. The Immortal Randy Rhoads has had many try to fill his shoes. Of them all none has lasted longer than fan favorite Zakk Wylde. Zakk has recorded 5 studio LPs, 2 live LPs and a live EP. This recording catches Zakk doing double duty on the Ozzfest Tour. This Was a pretty controversial show for Pink Floyd. They were allowed, despite protests, to play a free concert from a barge in the lagoon opposite St. Marks Square. Some 200,000 where estimated  to have been in attendance. The Superintendent of Monuments almost had the show shut down claiming vibrations from the volume could damage buildings. The show went ahead when Pink Floyd promised to play at reduced volume, although there were still claims of damage to marble claddings after the concert. Lamp posts were also said to be damaged by concert goers climbing them to get better a view. The city authorities failed to provide facilities for the visiting fans. The 300 tons of litter and human waste left behind had to be cleared by the army. Afterward the entire city council one by one resigned, but not before apologizing to the Venice residents and vowing no more such concerts will ever take place. The broadcast, billed as A Concert For Europe was seen by over 100 million viewers in 23 countries.

The audio portion of the DVD was made using the FM Broadcast of the show not the Television audio.

Audio rip from the DVD Would You Buy A Ticket To This Show? The DVD has LPCM audio (lossless). This is a GREAT sounding DVD. All the songs performed from Momentary Lapse Of Reason are here, and most of the classic tracks. "Money", "Welcome To The Machine", and "Another Brick In The Wall" part 2 were not included in thje video.

The legend that goes with this DVD is, a fan went rummaging through David Gilmore's garbage, and came up with this tape. It's an artist promo copy, used by companies to show an artist how a project looks. Now allegedly this was shot for the live DVD but ultimately turned down by Gilmore for a different show. According to Wikipedia the show was shot for MTV. The tape was authored into a DVD by the Household Objects people, and shared on the net.
I got my copy from The Traders Den. I then played it through my stereo to a stand alone CDR recorder. I Then ripped the disc to my computer for encoding with Traders Little Helper.

Pros & Cons Of Hitch-Hiking Tour

Roger Waters' first solo album The Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking was not received well by critics. Rolling Stone Magazine gave the album one star out of five calling it "a strangely static, faintly hideous record". Poor tickets sales plagued the European leg of the tour where some larger venues were cancelled. When Roger and company set their sights on the USA, it was in smaller venues. Roger Waters personally lost thousands of dollars on the tour. This very nice recording catches the band in awesome form. You get a set of Pink Floyd tracks, then after a short break a complete performance of The Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking. And oh yes I almost forgot, the guitar god himself Eric Clapton drops some awesome guitar solos through out the show.

A nice set from Roger Waters' Dark Side Of The Moon Live Tour. The audio comes from a bootleg DVD. The guy I got it from said it was a broadcast but I actually think it was a house feed recording. The reason I think this is there is no station ID in any corner of the video. Also the audio sounds to me like it came from the IEM channel. The reason I think this is because of the audible click track with spoken cues such as "guitar in 4-3-2-1". The audio had very little bass so I tried to bring that out a little.

The performance is top notch, you get the full Dark Side of the Moon performance, some of The Wall a nice chunk of Wish You Were Here, some solo Waters and "Sheep" from Animals. He can't play it all in 2 hours but you even get "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", so what more could you ask for ?

To set the scene of the DVD presentation, the intro track shows an antique radio on a shelf with a glass of whiskey and a cigarette burning in an ashtray. You see the hand move up to change the station before the band kicks into "In The Flesh". The effect is again repeated between "Have A Cigar" and "Wish You Were Here". Roger has teenagers from a local high school come out on stage for "Another Brick In The Wall", to sing, dance and wave their arms.

Listed as a soundboard recording but it could be an excellent audience recording, since a soundboard lineage was listed that's what I will post it as, but I will let you decide for yourself. As for the performance, this apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Shooter, like his famous Daddy, never fails to entertain. Like his famous Dad, Shooter bucks country music convention to perform an Outlaw Country/Southern Rock hybrid. His studio efforts blend Hard Rock, Country, Blues, and dabbled with the use of samples. His band Hierophant is a collaboration with Horror Legend Steven King. A Horror/Sci-Fi concept album about a DJ, a Rock band, and the end of the world, it's more hard rock than southern rock though. Also of note is the final Waylon Jennings release, Waylon Forever, which was recorded with Shooter & The 357's. Well worth the purchase price to hear Waylon covering Cream's "White Room".

When I was a young teen I would spend a lot of my summer days with my cousin who lived in a small city next to Ann Arbor Mi. We would ride our bikes into Ann Arbor to this huge record store that was there. They had a huge selection including bootlegs, t-shirts, posters, a ticket outlet and rehearsal rooms in the basement. When bands were rehearsing you could hear them playing, this day in particular the place was just vibrating. We asked who was in the basement and the store clerk pulled out a record and said "..these guys." The album in question was Blackfoot Strikes. We hung around browsing through the store listening to the music. I wish I could say we met the band but we didn't. I did however pick up Strikes along with something else which eludes my memory. Any way that's how I came to know the music of Blackfoot. Southern Rock with Hard Rock crunch played at ear blistering volume was the soundtrack that summer.

Country Music Legends Alabama once again recorded by Westwood One at the also legendary Gilley's Bar & Grill. The band was on tour for their Mountain Music album. Mountain Music was Alabama's most successful album of original music, only later compilations would sell better. Mountain Music would hit Billboards Country Music Album Chart at #1 and Billboards Top 200 at #14. Three singles "Mountain Music", "Take Me Down", and "Close Enough to Perfect" all hit #1 on The Country Music Chart, also charting on the Adult Contemporary Chart and the Billboard Hot 100. "Mountain Music" also won a Grammy for "Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals". The album has been certified Platinum 5 times over.

Country music legends Alabama on an early tour, at the World Famous Gilley's Bar. Alabama had a staggering 34 #1 hits on the Billboard Charts, 32 of which crossed over to reach the top of the Singles Charts (which covers all genres of music). By the time of this recording they had 5 consecutive #1 singles, 3 of which are played here. "Mountain Music" was unrecorded at the time but it would go to #1 upon its release.

Despite having 2 albums to draw from the boys chose to play some covers. Flat & Scrugg's "Salty Dog", Creedance Clearwater Revival's "Green River" & Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care Of Buisness" are given the Alabama treatment, the later actually touching on The Rolling Stone's "Satisfaction" & The Kink's "All Day And All The Night".

There are some audible vinyl pops that lead me to believe that this is actually a Pre-FM vinyl rip.

You may be interested to know that the 3 Aerosmith tracks on the Cal Jam II LP were not actually recorded at Cal Jam II and are the same versions from Live Bootleg. The actual dates are as follows:

-Draw The Line is from the 26/3/78 Upper Darby show
-Same Old Song And Dance is from the 24/3/78 Columbus show
-Chip Away The Stone is supposedly from 8/4/78 Santa Monica show

From what I understand there actually were some people who were disappointed in both the ABW&H album and tour. I frankly loved the album, and although I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the band on their only tour, bootlegs like this one make me think I missed something pretty freaking great. My first Yes experience would come in the form of the Union Tour 4 rows back form the stage.

Since the name Yes was owned by Chris Squire, the band entertained the idea of using the name The Afirmative. NO was also in the running but they soon settled on their last names. A rose by any other name would still kick your progressive rock ass. This great recording is actually an abridged version, I assume from a re-broacast, there is a 2 CD version floating around but all I've found of that is dead links.

With five #1 singles, six Grammys, five American Music Awards,  and six #1 albums no other American band sold as many records as The Eagles in the 1970s. This recording catches the group promoting their second album Desporado. A conceptual album loosely based on the Dalton Gang and the idea of Rock Star As Outlaw. A concept that many artists, like Bon Jovi would later repeat.

The album itself was not as successful commercially as the first was, but did spawn 2 singles, Outlaw  Man which sounds like it could have been written by Neil Young and, Tequila Sunrise. The song Desporado, even though a live fan favorite was never released as a single. The album is considered by most critics as one of the greatest country rock albums of all time. The country rock sound would slowly work it's way out of The Eagles music in subsequent releases. This is the reason Bernie Leadon would give for leaving the group while on tour for the One Of These Nights album.

"Intensities In 10 Cities Tour"

Track 10 Guitar solo fades as Ted starts up the intro riff to Stranglehold, however track 11 Solo / Stranglehold fades in at the same point so none of the performance is lost.

A really nice recording from Ted. The performance is typical Ted but with a little too much Intensities material for me. Ted kind of lost me around that period. For me Ted never was able to rise to the level of the material on the Derek St. Holmes / Clive Davis era material after Derek & Clive left. I didn't buy Intensities In 10 Cities, my purchasing of later Ted material actually was spotty. I bought the Nugent, Penetrater & Little Miss Dangerous albums when they came out on vinyl but my CD collection only covers up to Scream Dream.
