Hanoi Rocks formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1979. Having formed before the early 1980's Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Explosion the band was accepted by Metal Heads everywhere in spite of their Glam image. The band cited influences as varied as Cheep Trick, The Police and The MC5 and their music showed it. Equal parts of Punk, Hard Rock and Pop were used to create the bands sound. Any Glam/Hair Metal band that followed, Motley Crue et al owe a great deal of debt to Hanoi Rocks when it comes to their image. The bands Glitter Glam was more influential than the Heroin Hooker Chic of The New York Dolls, although every Glam/Hair Band owes The Dolls just as well. After the Hair/Glam explosion Hanoi Rocks were never thrown in with "The Posers" by the "True Metal" fans.

Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley was killed in a drunk driving accident in Redondo Beach, California on December 8, 1984 at the age of 24. Motley Crue vocalist Vince Neil was driving when he lost control causing an accident which killed Razzle and seriously injured 2 others. Hanoi Rocks canceled all their tour dates except for two, January 3 and 4, 1985 Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, Finland. These shows were broadcast live as "Europe A Go-Go". The shows were a Memorial To Razzle and the band would dedicate "Million Miles Away" to him each night. Former Clash drummer Terry Chimes filled in for Razzle and would be the bands drummer until their break up when Michael Monroe quit the group June 17, 1985.

Wishbone Ash's Twin Guitar Attack was a heavy influence on early Traditional Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands. Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, and Iron Maiden all featured a Dual Lead Guitar line-ups attributed to the influence of Wishbone Ash. Granted Wishbone Ash's music is a little removed from Heavy Metal, this straight forward hard rocking unit played a huge role in the development of the classic Heavy Metal sound. In Rolling Stone Magazine Andy Powell and Ted Turner were voted into the Top 20 Most Influential Guitarists Of All Time. Their fans already knew this.

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks and raise the volume. NO EQ, or noise reduction was used. The waves were encoded to MP3 320kbps with Traders Little Helper because the DVD had lossy audio.

The most important influences on Modern Heavy Metal are Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Motörhead. Black Sabbath were the architects who developed the the main frame of the genre, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple says that before Black Sabbath musicians thought being heavy was just playing louder. Judas Priest gave the genre it's uniform and identity, putting the official unwritten rule book together. Motörhead brought the 2 worlds of Punk Rock and Heavy Metal together. I was introduced to Motörhead by the same Punk Rocker in high school who introduced me to Black Flag. Punks and Metal Heads were both at Motörhead show. The bands mix of Punk & Metal was a huge influence on the development of Thrash Metal. No Motörhead, no Metallica, Anthrax or Slayer.
