JustDave's Notes:
- Thank you again to Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending in his vinyl for encoding.
- Thank you to Detective Draftervoi for his deep dive into the net for news paper coverage of The Outlaws and Johnny & The Distractions. You always go above and beyond.

Recording Notes:
- On the cue sheet it states that there is an "Ovu" test tone at the beginning of Side A but the tone is not there. Did the mastering room for get to put the test tone on the record.

Known Faults:
- The sound on this King Biscuit record set is not quite the same as I have gotten used to over the past couple years editing King Biscuit vinyl for Sam Elliot's Mustache.
- The volume was a little uneven on this one, each section seemed to have it's own volume and the song "Fox Trot Lilly" the drums were mostly shifted to the right side and overpowered the left side.
- It was not mastered at The Master Cutting Room by JOE. It was mastered at a place I can not decifer. It looks like a @ sign with a + sign on the end and an SP or 5P all in script.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- Raised the volume of the commercials to match that of the music and voice overs.
- A rumble filter with an initial cut off of 50khz and a static steepness of 2 was used to lessen the needle noise on the commercials due to having to raise the volume to match that of the music and voice overs.
- Volume differences adjusted after all other editing was finished.

Other Notes:
- At first I wondered what was so different about The Outlaws sound on this recording from all other's that I have and it's that there are only 2 guitar players not 3. Also the newer songs seem to lean more into the Hard Rock elements instead of the Southern Music elements. Third the harmony vocals just are not there either.
- The Outlaws would be dropped by their label after the tour due to poor sales of the 1982 album Los Hombres Malo. The following tours would have shows at small clubs and slow sales of later releases.
- Hughie Thomasson ended up joining the Johnny Van Zant lead Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 staying with the band until 2005. Hughie died in his sleep from a heart attack September 9, 2007 from a heart attack, he was 55.
- Johnny & The Distractions were described to me as kind of a Bruce Springsteenish musically. I would say some Bruce elements are there as well as some Bryan Adams and John Cougar. This is not to say they are not an entertaining band or their music is derivative of the named bands. It's just a way of giving a little idea of what they sound like. Definitely a high energy band.
- 1982 was the year Johnny & The Distractions got their big shot. Unfortunately for the band mistakes were made, the biggest of which was concentrating on the area around where they came from. They did not get a lot of tours outside that area. They did tour with Joan Jett and The J.Geils Band and had a semi-hit with "Let It Rock" but no follow up single to help push the band over the top.

JustDave's Notes:
- A Big Thank You to Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending his vinyl to be encoded!
- Thank yo to my fellow members of The Collective Of Live Music for continued support and inspiration.

Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove "ovu" tone for DJs to test levels and balance before airing the program at the beginning of side A. It has been encoded and moved to a folder so that it is not played accidentally with the program.
- There are 2 locked groove promo beds at the end of Side B, one with a Bill Minkin voiceover the other without, they have been encoded and moved to the end of the program.
- Both parts of this show were aired as King Biscuit Flower Hour #KB-350 aired January 18, 1981 but with one less song each. This rebroadcast added The Outlaws' "Devils Road" and The Johnny Van Zant Band's "Only The Strong Survive"

Known Flaws:
- The cue sheet names a completely wrong line up including Henry Paul who was kicked out of the band in 1977.

Other Notes:
- The first time I heard The Outlaws was when one of the FM stations I listened to as a teenager played "Green Grass And High Tides". The song kicked my ass with it's extended guitar solos. Next time I was partying with friends I asked if anyone had heard the song before. The kid whose house it was got up and put on The Outlaws debut album and I was hooked. Here was Southern Rock with hard driving guitars yet vocal harmonies that would make The Eagles take notice. They have been one of my favorite Southern Rock bands ever since.
- Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother Johnny Van Zant was chosen to front the reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 1990s. Before that he headed up the Johnny Van Zant Band which offered up a more Arena Rock/R&B flavored Southern Rock.

Henry Paul lead & rhythm guitar, lead & backing vocals
Frank O'Keefe (R.I.P.) bass guitar
Monte Yoho drums

Hughie Thomasson died September 9, 2007 of a heart attack, he was 55
Billy Jones died February 7, 1995 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, he was 45
Frank O'Keefe died February 25, 1995 from suicide by overdose, he was 44

Henry Paul is the last founding member to be in The Outlaws as of this posting. Monte Yoho has retired from the music business. At the time of this recording a lot of the USA was just getting to know the Florida Guitar Army. Three lead guitar players that also were three lead vocalists gave the band an original sound. The music was pure Southern Rock but the vocals were more like that of The Eagles. This combination made The Outlaws music pour like honey into your stoned, headphone cover ears. While researching this show I was saddened by the fact that Billy Jones and Frank O'Keefe were both victims of suicide. It's such a loss to the world of music. Billy Jones had such a beautiful voice and Frank O'Keefe was a very talented bassist who could hold it all together while the Outlaws Guitar Army went of on their many tangents. At this point in the life of the band, every thing was firing on all cylinders, vocalists and instrumentalists. The lengthy set closer "Green Grass And High Tides Forever" is never played the same way twice no matter how many times you see (or saw) The Outlaws. That makes this and any other Outlaws bootleg you see a must have.

Our first post at The New JDP from the Florida Guitar Army, The Outlaws, is a great sounding recording. From the sound quality it could actually be a Pre-FM but it came me to me labeled FM so that's how I'll post it. The Outlaws 3 and 4 part harmonies set them apart from their Southern Rock contemporaries. Their 3 guitar attack was the highlight of their live sound where the song Green Grass and High Tides would be stretched past the 20 minute mark, here it reaches 21 minutes and includes a drum solo as well.
