JustDave's Notes:
- This legendary early live concert TV Show ran on a Detroit PBS Channel which was on the UHF band. Old timers like me can remember when TVs had antennas not cable and you had VHF and UHF channels. VHF was "Network TV" the 3 channels CBS, ABC & NBC. UHF was local broadcasting and rececption was bad. Each had a separate antenna. If you wanted to watch UHF you had to put aluminium foil on the UHF antenna and move it around in the room till the picture cleared enough to watch.
- The show was also simulcast on a local FM radio station for better sound. Some opted just to listen to the radio because UHF reception could be real bad.
Known Flaws:
- The video source is Black & White footage and is really washed out with light and has a steady line across the bottom from the tracking being slightly off, however the audio is barely marred at all by the video age.
- There is a little distortion on the audio due to the UHF TV broadcast band.
- There is some hum from the TV broadcast as well and the volume fluctuates which took some editing to smooth out.
Recording Notes:
- The recording is listed as being from 1970 however the Alice Cooper episode was the premier episode and was aird in 1971 which has been confirmed with an ad for the show. I believe that the footage is from 1971.
- I was not given any information on where the video was shot so I assume it was at the Detroit Tubeworks Studio in Walled Lake, Michigan. However some episodes were filmed at different locations.
Editing Notes:
- Played on my DVD Player through my stereo to my computer and recorded on Goldwave.
- Recording and editing was done at 24bit/95khz then the wave was resampled to 16bit/44,1khz.
Other Notes:
- Although born in Mississippi John Lee Hooker moved to Detroit Michigan to find employment in the growing auto manufacturing industry. As John Lee Hooker's fame and notoriety grew so did Detroit's love for it's adopted Blues Child. None other than Michigan Hard Rock Legends Grand Funk Railroad wrote a song celebraiting Hooker called "Little Johnny Hooker on their Todd Rundgren produced Shine On album. Hooker's Blues came from the Mississippi Delta with a strong infection of Detroit's industrial energy.
