This show popped up at The Trader's Den just a few days ago. It's a pretty good sounding show with a liitle bit of the higher gen source making itself known. It suffers from a little loss of clarity in the high end and some tape noise. However it is a very enjoyable listen. Steve Miller is on fire for this show. It's been on my player every night since I downloaded it it's that good of a performance, an Absolute Must Have!!!!

Oh by the way that is Journey's Ross Valory beating on the bass guitar. I didn't know he played in The Steve Miller Band before Journey.

Now we come to this nice little gem! A nice little gem indeed! The fabulous Steve Miller Band running through a few songs at a rehearsal studio. It's a nice listen, something you will go back to for enjoyment time & time again. If you want The Blues or Rock it's got it! Recorded on the date, I was there to see the Talking Heads. Transferred to Flac on June 19 2014 ripped from my original master tape, recorded at the soundboard, ripped on my Nakamichi this is the complete show, not just the circulating FM tracks.

Hans transferred this to flac as a single unchaptered flac.  In AUDACTIY, I chaptered the tracks,
normalized the channels, removed a few audio glitches, merged the audio at the tape flip,
removed sector boundary errors, exported to FLAC, and compressed with WINRAR.

This is a very clean sounding recording that has to be heard to be appreciated!

This is The Steve Miller Blues Band, a far cry from the Space Rock of Fly Like An Eagle. It's more on par with the style of Blues Rock that most Blues inspired musicians of the 1960's were performing. That being said this is a kick ass performance of some of the best Blues Rock to be played by a Rocker of the 1960's. This is the same line-up that backed Chuck Berry at the Fillmore West and played at the Monterey Pop Festival. This is also before the addition of Boz Skaggs. So download this show now if you love stuff like Ten Years After, Paul Butterfield, etc. Also download this if you never heard The Steve Miller Blues Band and learn why he was called Stevie "Guitar" Miller by such worshiping fans as a young George Thorogood (true story Steve Miller heavily influenced George, see the DVD included in the Fly Like An Eagle deluxe edition).

A great performance from The Steve Miller Band, with really good sound. "Living in the USA" has a voice over in the first few seconds, it's over before the first verse. "Space Cowboy" has a different arrangement, and "The Joker" is done acoustically solo by Steve. Of particular note is the early performance of the as yet un-recorded "Fly Like An Eagle", worth the price of your internet connection itself. The DVD also had The Raspberries on it as well, but I just couldn't sit through that part to encode it. Not my cup of tea, to me they sound like something marketed to young teen girls, ie Shaun Cassidy, David Cassidy, Bay City Rollers, et al. Sorry don't mean to offend any of their fans, just an opinion.

notes:
A nice collection of recordings chronicling the evolution of the Steve Miller Band, from rocking blues band to the early space rock of Fly Like an Eagle.

The first show comes before Boz Scaggs joined the band. 1967 is the year that the band was actually signed to Capitol records. The bands first official recording will not surface till 1968, but in 1967 they did back Chuck Berry when he recorded the Live At The Filmore album.

The second show comes from May of 1968, now the first album was recorded while on tour in England in May of 1968 so this recording is most likely from before the LP is recorded. It's definitely from before Children of the Future's release which came in September. Sailor followed in October.

The third show comes from 1973 before the release of The Joker, which was released in October.

There is some static toward the end of "Mary Lou" which sounds like a radio station not quite tuned. It doesn't last too long.

These are all great performances highlights would be the two jams on CD1 the second of which is 22 minutes long. CD 2 features a 15 minute version of "Living in The USA". While CD 3 features a live version of "Fly Like An Eagle" a full 3 years before it is recorded. "The Joker" has very different lyrics and is presented acoustically. The extended jams on this collection show why people used to call him Stevie "Guitar" Miller.
