- Thank you to whoever I got this tape from, it was a long time since I have traded and I have forgotten who I received this from and what generation you said it would be.
Recording Notes:
- A cassette from a box of tapes I have that have no labels and or j-cards.
- There is a small pop between "Transfixion" and "Elastic" not sure of the cause.
Editing Notes:
- Recording and editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Due to recording being done on a 120 minute tape there was no tape flip to edit.
- The only tampering I did with this tape was to add a fade in at the beginning of the show and cleaning up the fade out at the end.
Other Notes:
- Meshuggah is a Swedish metal band that plays a type of Extreme Metal sometimes called Math Metal.
- The Metal community, especially those who do not like Meshuggah's style, made up the new genre name of Djent for Meshuggah and bands influenced by them. This name came from an interview where one of Meshuggah's guitarists was talking about tuning the guitars and said something to the effect of "you have to tune the guitars till you get the proper djent sound from them"
- Rolling Stone magazine has called them one of the ten most important Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands.
- Rolling Stone did say the only drawback to Meshuggah was Jens Kidman's Hardcore Punk vocals.
- The song "Soul Burn" was used in an episode of The Osbournes where Ozzy was having a feud with his neighbor about the neighbors loud music. Jack turns his speakears to the window and says "this'll get em it's Swedish Death Metal called Meshuggah. It did not stop the neighbors but it got Meshuggah on the next Ozzfest Tour.
- The band uses Polyrhythms, Polymetered Riff Cycles, Rhythmic Syncopation, Rapid Key and Tempo Changes, and Neo-Jazz chromatics in their song writing.
- In Polymeters typically used by Meshuggah, the guitars might play in odd meters such as 5/16 or 17/16, while drums play in 4/4. In one song, drummer Haake keeps the hi-hat and ride cymbal in 4/4 time but uses the snare and double bass drums in 23/16 time.
- The band uses downtuned 8 string guitars and 6 string basses to get their particular sound, and are always trying to challenge their audience as well as their musical ability.
- The challenging of their audience, besides the music, also comes in the way they release their albums. After the success of the Nothing CD (2002), the band released an EP consisting of one 21 minute song called I (2004). After I, the band released Catch Thirtythr33 (2005), a full length album consisting of one 47 minute track divided into 13 subtitles. Next, they released a re-recorded version of Nothing before finally releasing a proper follow up album, obZen (2008).
- The reason for re-recording the Nothing album was because they intended the album to be the 1st recorded with their 8-string guitars. The special ordered guitars were not finished in time so they tuned 7-string guitars to somewhat match 8-string instruments.
- The band was never happy with the results so re-recorded all the guitar parts. Drum parts were also re-recorded and some vocal touch ups as well. Both versions of the album are awesome but myself I prefer the original over the re-recorded version by a small margin.
- Nothing and the albums that followed have all charted on the Billboard 200. Koloss, released March 23, 2012, was the most successful yet. It debuted at number 17 in the USA.
- In 2006 and 2009 the band was nominated for Swedish Grammy Awards.
- This show was recorded while the band was promoting their 3rd full length album Chaosphere.
