- A Big Thank You to Sam Ellliot's Mustache for sending his vinyl to be encoded.
- Also a big Thank You to the inventer of the synthesizer. A boon or a bane depending on what musician or music fan you ask.
- Lastly Thank You King Biscuit Flower Hour for having the courage to are these 2 bands on a very "ROCK" oriented program.
Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove "Ovu" test tone at the beginning of Side A it has been encoded and placed in it's own folder so no one accidentally plays it.
- There are 2 locked groove Show Promo Beds with Ultravox music, one with a Bill Minkin Voiceover the other without, they have been encoded and moved to the end of the program.
- As far as I can tell this is the only recording of either Ultravox or ABC on King Biscuit Flower Hour.
Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- Raised the volume of the commercials to match that of the music and voice overs.
- A rumble filter with an initial cut off of 50khz and a static steepness of 2 was used to lessen the needle noise on the commercials due to having to raise the volume to match that of the music and voice overs.
Other Reports:
- As a Metalhead people wouldn't think I was a fan of a band like Ultravox. I became a fan after 2 things: First I saw the video for "Reap The Wild Wind" on MTV and was really intregued by the soundscape and the use of video to enhance it. Second I heard Doug Podell "The Doc Of Rock" talking about the Ultrazox concert that WLLZ-FM sponcered. He said that unlike most "Synth Bands" Ultravox had a real heavy pressence live. Then played "Vienna". After that a friend of mine that was into a lot of New Wave played the album for me. The combination of Kraftwork and Tangerine Dream with a sence of writing a memerable song had me.
