1974 Cobo Hall Arena, J. Geils Band live. Not going to say I was there because I wasn't. I didn't catch Geils live for a few more years. At Pine Knob I think. I was a diehard fan that really wanted to see them that November. I was given a copy of the Live: Full House album by my Aunt Red and it blew me away! Hard hitting Bluesy, R & B, Boogie Rock & Roll. I wasn't too impressed with their last 2 albums actually. Love Stinks was a pretty good album but I always skipped "Love Stinks" and "No Anchovies Please". Freeze Frame had a couple moments but You're Gettin' Even, While I'm Gettin' Odd plain sucked (I know I own a very pristine condition hardly played vinyl copy). It was the only J.Geils Band album not to have an official CD release. There was an unauthorized CD pressed in Japan. It however sounds like it was mastered from a vinyl copy as well.

There is a bit of a hum that runs through out the show. It sounds like an amp hum, it sucks while Peter Wolf talks but you don't here it during the music. That being said, it is a Monkey Island era soundboard recording. Not a lot of those out there.

This show is edited from files uploaded to the net by Leslie Mountain. It was 5 files with out the tracks being indexed. I decoded the files and used Goldwave v6.52 to index the files. No EQ or noise reduction was used. No remastering, remixing or volume adjustment was done. After the tracks were indexed Traders Little Helper was used to encode the waves to Flac Level 8, aligning sector boundary errors. The file set came with a CD scan and I found a scan of the Cue Sheet on the net so I included it as well.

This is one of those Re-broadcast King Biscuit shows, where they re-broadcast classic shows. This one only has one flaw, each bands portion of the show is too short.

The J Geils Band has to be one of the greatest live rock & roll bands ever. This performance is a great example of the reason why I make such a bold statement. I have also seen them countless times and never failed to be completely satisfied by shows end. The last  time I seen them they played for almost 3 hours. Peter Wolf is a ball of energy that explodes repeatedly through out the show. His jive talking MC patter just as important to the J Geils live experience as Magic Dick's harmonica spotlight "Wammer Jammer".
