Nice sounding broadcast from the Remain In Light tour. The band was experimenting with Afrobeat, West African Polyrhythms, North African Arabic Music, and Disco Funk at this time. The complex songs required an augmented line-up to perform them live. Initially there was only to be 2 shows from this nine person line-up. One at Heatwave Festival August 23, 1980 in Canada in front of 70,000 people. The other at Wollman Rink in New York City's Central Park August 27, 1980. The response to these show prompted Sire to fund an extended tour.

Alternative Rock giants Live on Westwood One during their heyday, well before the split. It seems almost cliche for bands to part ways with their original vocalist these days and replace him with a sound alike. Joining in on that band wagon Live have added a new vocalist, who sounds real close to Ed Kowalczyk. I have a recording from the new line up that I will be posting later for those curious to hear them. But for now you should download this fabulous piece of Live's history.

In 1999 someone thought it would be a great idea to put Tori Amos and Alanis Morisette on tour together. When the 5½ Weeks Tour hit Las Vegas, NV it was filmed for a Pay Per View Special. This recording comes form a bootleg DVD of that show. Tori is in fine voice and except for 2 songs is accompanied by a backing band of bass, drums, and guitars. Tori blows the lyrics to "Professional Widow" and leads the band on a little improv of "Things Fuck Up" before launching back into the song. During "The Waitress" a drunk heckler annoys Tori to the point where she shouts at the unruly person to perform a certain sex act on her, then continues on without missing a beat.

This is a really nice sounding recording and an awesome performance from Tori and band.

Tori's music has been described as erotic, sensual, and hauntingly beautiful. It has a heaviness to it ala Peter Gabriel era Genesis due to the tone, presentation, and lyrical content. Heavy but not in a metal way. More cerebral.

Tori was composing piano pieces at the age of 5 and was given a scholarship at the Preparatory Division of the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Her scholarship was taken away at age 11 for her interest in rock music and refusal to read music. Her insistence to play by ear and not read music was the basis for the band name Y Kant Tori Read, Tori's first band. The band was a synth group that featured future Cult and Guns n' Roses drummer Matt Sorum. The bands first album was a commercial flop and the band broke up. Tori was held to her contractual obligation for 6 more albums, so her solo career was born. Tori has been nominated for 8 Grammys, 4 MTV Video Awards, and 1 Brit Award. Not too bad for a rebellious preachers daughter from Baltimore, Maryland.

Dead Can Dance is a World Music fusion band formed in Melbourne, Australia. I was first introduced to the band by a friend of mines wife, who after looking through a small case of discs I travel with, suggested I might like them. I admitted I had heard the name mentioned in interviews with some of the more experimental Heavy Metal artists I listen to, and would give it a try. She brought out some CDs for me to try, and also offered a couple Yanni and Enya discs at the same time (No offense to fans of those two artists but I have tried them, they are not for me). I took the Dead Can Dance left the other stuff and went on my merry stoner way. When I got home I popped it in a disc and the sounds that came at me amazed. Music so hypnotic as to almost be transcendental. Lush soundscapes and a voice like an angel singing an aria. Lachrymosely beautiful and engulfing. Download this show, put on some headphones and drift away.
