Al Green - ABC-TV In Concert ~ Bananafish Garden, Brooklyn, NY, 02-21-1973 (FM)

Al Green
ABC-TV In Concert
Bananafish Garden
Brooklyn, NY, USA
February 21, 1973
TV Broadcast/Soundboard Recording

FLAC & MP3 320kbps/48khz
Front Cover Only

01 Simply Beautiful
02 Call me
03 Love And Happiness

A short but nice sounding recording from the Legendary Reverend Al Green. Back in the day, there were a few Soul Singers that went hand in hand with romance. Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, or Al Green on the stereo were pretty much prerequisite of any romantic movie scene. The performance that Al lays down on ya' here is pure Golden Soul, showing why every contemporary soul singer today is still choking on Al Green's dust. Not to put them down really but most contemporary Soul artists are too busy sampling the above mentioned singers or copying the vocal lines to actually achieve those legendary heights, IMHO anyway.

Billy Cobham - drums
Jerry Goodman - electric violin
Rick Laird - bass

Founded in 1971, the Mahavishnu Orchestra helped pioneer the Jazz Fusion movement. By 1973 however the mounting tensions between the bands members would be it's undoing. The original line-up would fold months after their Don Kirshner's Rock Concert performance. The second line-up would come to be called the "Real Mahavishnu Orchestra" by John McLaughlin. 1973 was also the year that McLaughlin would collaborate with Carlos Santana on the Love Devotion And Surrender album. This performance was my introduction to Mahavishnu Orchestra and I have been a fan ever since, but the original line-up is probably my favorite.

This recording comes from my bootleg DVD which has both the Don Kirshner's Rock Concert & ABC-TV In Concert performances. Don Kirshner was Executive Producer of In Concert when Mahavishnu Orchestra made their appearance on the show. By September of the same year he founded Don Kirshner's Rock Concert which remained on the air until 1981. The year MTV made it's debut.

This is the complete FM simulcast to the ABC-TV In Concert broadcast of the first California Jam. I have done my best to edit around the commercially released tracks while not taking away from the listening pleasure. If your like me this will take you back in time. I remember watching this on TV with my family. My parents liked Seals & Crofts, and The Eagles but the rest was just a little too much for them. They did like Keith Emerson's keyboard solo and the spinning piano sequence. I remember when Blackmore's amp blew up during "Space Truckin'" my my Dad making a comment that the "..fu##ing idiots almost killed their guitar player trying to be cool!"

this is a large file set so the flac is in 4 parts, the mp3 is divided in 2.
