I've been looking for a copy of this festival since I first saw the Woodstock Nation LP Box at my favorite Used Record Store Solo Records. I don't say my favorite lightly either I have been going to them for over 30 years. So I been looking for this show for a while. When I found it, I downloaded it right away then promptly forgot about it in my very over full download folder.

So I'm going through my folder and came across it, I immediately zipped it up for this download. It's a nice listen, you will listen to it more than once. It's also a Piece Of History, I had not heard of this festival till my initial finding of the record years ago. I looked it up, if you want to know more about it you should look it up too. It's an interesting line-up though I am trying to figure the out the addition of Ted Nugent's Amboy Dukes and Sha Na Na to what looks to be a predominately Blues Festival. The only thing I could think was it's the Bill Graham influence. He would put Eddie Money and Kiss on the same stage.

My first exposure to the music of Paul Butterfield was on the Woodstock Soundtrack Album. It was a song called "Love March". It was actually not one of my favorite tracks on the album. The jam in the song was good enough I figured that there had to be something to him. So I decide to ask the lady at The Fox Hole Record Store. My Mom says this woman had been there since the 1960s, you could just hum a small bit of a song or say a small bit of lyric, she was able to find it for you! So I asked about Paul Butterfield's music. She walked to a bin, pulled out The Paul Butterfield Blues Band (their first album) I took it home, listened, then bought another when I earned enough money. It wasn't just that Butterfield could blow on the harp, the band was great too. Everyone plays something real tasty on that album. It's the same on this live recording, it definitely satisfies!

A great show with Foghat jamming with some of their heroes. Shot in a somewhat documentary style, with voice overs from Lonesome Dave Peverett. The performances are awesome, Foghat backs everyone but Johnny Winter & Muddy Waters who play with Muddy Waters' backing group, then everyone jams on "I Just Want To Make Love To You" for the finale. Foghat fans and blues fans alike need this rare show. All proceeds from the concert went to developing a Blues Wing in the New York Public Library.

The DVD itself is made from a copy of the pre-broadcast tape, there are spots where it says insert commercial here. The tape appears to be of low generation. There was a big difference in volume and sound fidelity between the first 2 tracks and the rest of the video, I tried to fix this as best I could.

My track list doesn't quite follow the cover art but seemed a more logical separation to me. 9 of the named performers at this show have passed on, to paraphrase Alan O'Day ..You know they got a hell of a band !
