JustDave's Notes:
The Palace Of Auburn Hills had opened it's doors on August 13, 1988. Pink Floyd were the first band of any Rock genre to play The Palace. My friend Gypsy Dan and I were in attendance the first night. The show was sponsored by WRIF-FM 101 Detroit so it cost each of us a $1.01 US for our ticket's, which were great seats. The Pig during "One Of These Days" shone directly at us for the long bassy synth solo in the mid section. It was blinding, the next day my bass player tells me that a Pink Floyd Roadie came into his Autoworks Parts Store to buy like 8 high-brightness halogen headlights for the Pig.

This recording covers both nights of Pink Floyd's 2 night stint as the opening Rock band of The Palace. Crosby, Stills & Nash played the next 2 nights for only $.98 US. I remember joking that David Crosby looked like Grandpa Jones from Hee Haw!

This is an amazing tribute to one of Rocks Classic Albums. Nguyên Lê has played with the arrangements of each track, putting his own unique Jazz twist to Pink Floyd's creations. Fans of Jazz and of Pink Floyd should check this one out. I personally am very addicted to this recording.

This CD was part of the Jazz Italiano series.This series created by Luciano Linzi, artistic director of Casa del Jazz of Rome, was produced in collaboration with publishing group "la Repubblica/L'espresso". The series was published for four consecutive years, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. The recordings are all original live productions. These CDs were not for sale, but were distributed in Italy with the weekly magazine "L'espresso".

With the response I got from the last Jazz Pink Floyd Tribute I posted from Maria Pia De Vito, Nguyên Lê & The NDR Big Band I figured every one would like this one as well. Great arraignments done by Rita Marcotulli and a wonderful performance by all, highly recommended.

Oldest bootleg not yet commercially released by Pink Floyd. Some Pink Floyd databases say that it has terrible sound. That it's not worth listening to....But it is! It's actually not a terrible recording just not a perfect recording. To hear what they were doing live with Syd Barrett as their leader makes this even better. I played it for Rosebud and she said that I should go ahead and post it, just not with her name on it. When I play her any Pink Floyd before Dark Side Of The Moon she's not too interested. She did comment that Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd is much different live than on The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.

At this time I am reading a book called Saucerful Of Secrets The Pink Floyd Odyssey by Nicholas Schaffner. In it he describes arguments between Syd, the rest of the band and the bands management that they should be playing their hit singles. Syd wanted nothing to do with it preferring the Psychedelic Experiments that The Floyd had been playing before being signed. Syd Barrett was in charge then, he wrote the songs, he was the star, he got his way (thank God!). I'm actually re-reading the thing. I am right at the part where Syd is starting to break, which is during a tour with Jimi Hendrix. If you like books about bands I recommend it, I'm re-reading it using bootlegs of each period as reading music. I have a lot of Pink Floyd bootlegs.

This is the first in a few Quadraphonic recordings to come from Pink Floyd. This 2 source audience matrix was a great choice for the Quadraphonic treatment. The choices and process are lain out in detail in the info text included with the upload. To try and sum up, both tapers used mono recorders. Both taper's missed songs and had some songs cut. Each had 4 songs they taped in their entirety. They happened to be the same 4 songs. Only the 4 songs both successfully recorded were used.

Taper #1 was close up to the stage and the tape has very good sound in itself. It has been used for many bootleg releases due to it being the most complete, best sounding source. Taper #2 was sitting pretty far back so his tape was used to give the recording it's ambiance. This ambiance is used to great effect, giving the feeling of being in the audience. With your surround speakers set up right the music comes mainly from the front. The sound effects and voices of audience members engulf you from all around.

As I said with the Genesis Quadraphonic show, I have a few of these coming. These will include more Pink Floyd, more Genesis, Caravan, Santana, Barclay James Harvest, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Robin Trower, and Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance to name a few. Most are Pre-FM, some are Soundboard and some are Audience. I found a very generic cover to use since there is no real cover art for a Quad source.

Just like the Genesis recording I can not encode Quadraphonic into MP3. For an MP3 upload I had to use Goldwave to convert the recording to 2 channels. They do have the same matrix mix but are not quadraphonic encoded.

The Flac files were huge so I had to divide them into 5 equal parts. You will need all five parts to unzip the files. The links are interchangeable so I recommend downloading one from each server at a time if you can.

Taper 1 Source Comment: T.Mack (Yeeshkul): Almost certain this is a Master DAT clone and even if it's not, it's still damn good. PRRP: "Have a Cigar" version is closer to proper speed but trails off after 18,000Hz more than this version. Both have step-wise processing artifact after 16,000Hz but "Have a Cigar" version goes to zero and this version does not. This version is clipped and runs too fast but both problems were corrected.

This really is a nice sounding audience recording. You can't go wrong if you start an audience 2 source matrix with a Dan Lampinski recording. Like any PRRP remaster project, the list of things done to this recording is pretty long. I kept their information in the art folder of the upload of course. It really does have great stereo separation. I have a few different copies of this show, I'm not sure which I like better which explains why I have a few different copies (not at all that I have a problem of hording music it's not my fault Rosebud indulges Me). Anyway I think everyone would enjoy listening to this copy more than once.

I don't post a lot of audience recordings because most sound like complete crap. This is a nice listen, for an audience recording. The instruments are clear and for the most part the audience is pretty quiet. I must say that the highs are kinda crisp & the lows have a pretty good bump. So the way I decide if I will post an audience recording is if I would listen to it more than once myself. That's also how I decide if I will even keep one and to be truthful I don't download them anymore as a rule....but rules can be broken right?!

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to try to make the volume levels match better. No EQ or noise reduction was used. The waves were lossy so I used Traders Little Helper to encode them to MP3 320kbps.

Some great early performances by Pink Floyd from various Television Broadcasts. Some of the performances are a little abridged and there could have been a broader selection of songs. Don't let those 2 little facts deter you, this is early, live Pink Floyd...smoke a couple joints, put on your headphones and float!!

Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana with Conductor Markus Poschner

In 2014, Nguyên Lê, together with Michael Gibbs and the NDR Bigband, released Celebrating The Dark Side Of The Moon. At the 2018 Estival Jazz in Switzerland, he performs the album with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. This is the first time Nguyên Lê has performed this Tribute with an orchestra. Celebrating Of Dark Side Of The Moon features Jazz Arraignments for the albums songs. This performance actually includes a couple original compositions that were inspired by the album as well.

I ripped the audio from both DVD's using DVD Audio Extrctor v4.5.5. I then used Goldwave v5.04 to raise the volume of the tracks and join together a couple tracks that should hve been but were not. There is a 3 CD version from the BigO blog that devides Set II between CD's 2 & 3. CD 3 starts with track 07 "Today", so that would be a recommended split if you burn CD-r's of this set. I also included BigO's artwork for the CD set. However my encoding is edited to play as the DVD's did.

This recording is traded as both a soundboard and an excellent audience recording. I believe it to be and excellent audience recording. At any rate it is the last performance of Atom Heart Mother with an orchestra, and a very listenable recording as well. A classic and a must for any Pink Floyd fan.

The New JDP's salute to 4-20 rolls on (pun intended) with the ultimate Stoner band Pink Floyd. Pink Floyed's music has always been considered drug music, although not all Pink Floyd listeners take drugs (so no hate comments please). This soundboard recording is nice and clear letting you enjoy the nuances of Pink Floyd's music. The comments on the Pink Floyd database suggest that this is one of the cleanest sounding from this show. Also it says that this is one of the more complete sources having both encores included.

This is a great collection of recently surfaced demo recordings from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here & Animals recording sessions. They first surfaced separately on vinyl, but then a CD collection of both was released. These files come from the CD version though the sources for the material are the same. I have included below one collectors comments on his observations on each track.

“Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I – VIII)”
This is an early version when the song was intended to be one complete piece. Well, Part 1-8. There is no 9 yet. The beginning starts with the wine glasses part, then the tape ends abruptly and there are several run throughs of the opening famous four guitar notes. The backing vocals were still not in place yet. The guitar solos drift back and forth between the familiar parts and parts that are far different from the final version. Roger’s vocals are most likely all from a different take. At the end of part 5, there’s no sax solo yet. The end mixes smoothly into part 6 as it was originally intended. One surprising bit is one of of Roger’s backing tracks is overdubbed way too loud and jumps at you. The ending of part 8 just jams off into a “Son of Echoes” jam that just fades out. So most likely the last part 9 was an afterthought.

“Welcome To The Machine”
This is definitely an early studio basic track sketching the ideas and the main feel of the pulse of the song. The throbbing VCS3 bass line is there, and the basis of the keyboard part is there, but the vocals are unfinished and sung by Roger in a lower quiet way almost as a guide vocal. You even hear Gilmour say something like “I can’t hear your voice”, which made me crack up. There’s also creepy talkbox vocals by David Gilmour (like in the “Pigs” solo or the end of “Keep Talking”). Definitely a work in progress at this point. You’re really hearing the building blocks on which the rest of the song was built.

“Have A Cigar”
I expected the mix from the Immersion box set. But this is definitely a different take. The vocals have some different parts. Roy Harper and David Gilmour share vocals but I’m pretty sure I hear Roger Waters in there also. Parts of the guitar solos and keyboards are definitely different. Basically the meat of the track was there, but it needed a lot more polishing to become the final track. Quite different to hear any version of this where there are two vocalists. The solo seems to go forever, as this was before the idea of the “sucked into the radio” effect to end the track.

“Raving and Drooling (Sheep)”
This one is still more bare bones than its final version. There are far less lyrics. The lyrics are pretty much the way it was sung in 1974 on tour. Without those parts there are far more breaks to focus on the music. But a lot of the music is now in place that would end up on the album. The guitar is not quite there yet, missing some of the anger Gilmour added into his playing later, probably after squabbles with Roger no doubt. Noticeably, the line “zig zag their way between boredom and pain” is used which would later be reused and altered slightly for “Pigs On The Wing” Without a lot of the overdubs you’re used to the song feels quite different. Also the menacing siren-like keyboard solo from the early live versions is still here. I’m guessing that somewhere in there Rick Wright tried a new approach and ditched the early solo. There are some organ parts that stick out on the background too that sound like the last gasps of the 1969/1970 organ solo sound.

“Dogs”
This was more likely still called “You’ve Gotta Be Crazy”. The song had been played since the Dark Side of the Moon tour and went through many lyrical and phrasing changes. It’s very close to the album version musically but there are still no lyrical references to dogs yet. So this was probably just before adding the theme to the songs. The main difference here is that Roger Waters sings pretty much all of the parts David Gilmour sang on the final version, and it’s kind of obvious why. While it’s a big alternate reality situation to imagine if Roger sang the song, he hits some sour notes while trying to hit the peak of his vocal range. Also, the spacey midsection with the barking dogs is not yet in place. There’s an abrupt join at that spot where the section just hasn’t been put in yet. It’s quite interesting to see the leaps this song made between the live version in 1974 and the final 1977 version.

“Pigs (3 Different Ones)”
Being that this song was the newest of the batch, this work in progress version  is pretty close to the final album version. These are definitely different takes. There are parts missing that would end up on the final mix. Roger’s vocals are definitely a different take but are fairly close to the same phrasing as the album version.

“Message From The Sheep/ Sheep SFX”
This oddity is a short add-on. The isolated sheep noises used on the final mix of “Sheep”.
