A great performance from Lyle Mays and his band. The Pat Metheny Group's keyboardist playing with a fabulous Sextet including one of my favorite sax players Joe Lovano. Everyone who follows Pat Metheny has a good idea how this group may sound. Though this Sextet doesn't use the exact same tone and timbre of The Pat Metheny Group, Lyle May's talent in such musical areas are clearly on display. The solo piano in "Mars" is example enough of Lyle's talents.
I just got this show a few weeks ago and it is the reason I reposted 2 other Lyle Mays boots. An FM broadcast from the Lyle Mays Quartet's 1992 Umeå Jazzfestival appearance. The other is the Power Station Demos for Lyle Mays 1st album. Sorry today's Jazz On Sunday is just from a single artist. Lucky for all it's someone as talented as the late Lyle Mays

Thanks for this! I actually saw the first set last night for Lee Ritenour, here at a small club in Vegas. Of course I recorded it, as I always do. I'm betting that you'd be interested in having that show to post. If was a bit shorter than I really wanted, and he talked a lot between songs, but it was a quality show.
ReplyDeleteGman the Lee Ritenour would be cool to have. Sorry took so long to answer. It's a bit crazy around here right now.

No worries, Dave! I'll need to clean up my recording a bit. Though it was a small club scene and won't take very much work. I also recorded Acoustic Alchemy at the same venue last year. That was a really good show as well, but one thing at a time... lol
