I remember the first time I heard R.E.O Speedwagon. I turned on my radio just as the DJ was saying here's "R.E.O. Speedwagon..." and "Golden Country" came on. Man that organ and the guitar riff just got me. I've always wanted to do a Heavier version of it. It really could be a Heavy Metal song. I actually made myself a compilation called Songs That Should Be Metal Songs "Golden Country's" on it. So are Bruce Springsteen's "Adam Raised A Cain", Queen's "Shear Heart Attack", and "Tenament Funster", The Eagles "Victim Of Love" among others.
Back to R.E.O. Speedwagon. I went out and bought the album and I still have it in rotation on my turntable. R.E.O. in the 1970s had a Spinal Tap kind of saga in the lead vocal position. Cronin's in Cronin's out, Mike Murphy's in Mike Murphy's out, Kevin Cronin's in, it made for what some call a spotty musical history. The change in vocalist always has a effect on the sound of any band. I am in no way saying that the Mike Murphy albums are bad albums. There are songs on those records that the Kevin Cronin R.E.O. continued to play live. They can not leave a stage without playing "Riding The Storm Out". This FM capture is a little thin on bass but is a great performance and a nice listen!

Offer number 2 for getting over the Hump day, an FM recording of Hard Rock Legends Thin Lizzy. It's kind of ironic Ford Auditorium is no more, the Orchestra moved to Orchestra Hall it closed...WABX-FM is no more it went of the air sometime during my teen years unfortunately...Thin Lizzy is no more, we lost Phil Lynott way to freaking young...The band Thin Lizzy was revived by surviving members, but had to change their name after legal issues came up. Also it couldn't have been better if it was set up purposely. Like in a political campaign, OK Phil first of we are going to play an iconic theater in Detroit, with a real Detroit name. The Ford Theater! Then we broadcast it live on one of Detroit's oldest Rock Stations WABX. Not only that Phil, but we want you to cover a song by an iconic Detroit song writer Bob Seger! Yeah! and it's going to be the song "Rosalie" written about an iconic Detroit AM Radio Personality Rosalie Trombley who broke so many Detroit music Legends on the iconic AM Radio station CKLW! It doesn't get more Detroit than that...I think it's a key to the city winning strategy!

It's Sunday Morning and my coffee is ready. This nice show from the Bill Evans Trio is just what the morning needs....I downloaded this great show from our old friends at BigO what they said about the show is below...
What BigO Said:
Bill Evans’s use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, “singing” melodic lines continue to influence jazz pianists today. In 1963, Evans recorded Conversations with Myself, a solo album using the unconventional technique of overdubbing over himself. He passed away in 1980. He was 51.

JustDave's Notes:
Everything I see says this gig took place on December 30, 1978. I have found 2 newspaper or magazine adds and 1 bootleg cover that shows this date. Setlist.fm and The Concert Archive show the date as December 30, 1978. Also most sources on the net has The Doobie Brothers playing Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, Sacramento, California on December 29, 1978. I will let you decide but the evidence suggests December 30, 1978. Maybe our friend Draftervoi has some information on this one.
I have included the news paper clippings I was able to find on the net about the date of the show. Enjoy this great sounding Doobie Brothers concert!

This one may surprise a lot of people but I happen to love Neil Diamond's music. He is such a great song writer, you see his name everywhere in the world of Pop, Rock and Adult Contemporary Music history. The Monkeys, UB40, Elvis even Deep Purple recorded and had hits with Neil Diamond songs. It's really no wonder that he was able to obtain such heights as to star in and write the soundtrack for a major motion picture. The Jazz Singer soundtrack hit number 3 on the American Billboard chart. Three singles "Love On The Rocks", "Hello Again" and "America" also hit the Top 10. My go to Neil Diamond is "I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight". I had an 8-track copy of it that I wore out. This is an awesome sounding recording so enjoy!

All though I wasn't a very big fan of Smashing Pumpkins during their heyday they are the band from the 1990s Alternative Rock Boom I still listen to the most. The 1990s for me was a time when a lot of personal problems really had me in a bad way. The music of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains among others actually spoke to me in a deep way. Maybe it's an association thing, I do hate thinking back to that period in my life. Anyway, I can remember when a girl that hung out with my group of friends told me "I heard a song that reminds me of you. It's called "Bullet With Butterfly Wings.." See my family of friends have a different nick name for me...it's Rat. For many reasons, one is that I come and go with out you knowing. I leave without saying goodbye or when you think I'm gone, you see me scurrying about. Plus I was from a town that everyone called Shacktown (it's listedon Wikipedia) and people from Shacktown are called Shackrats. It's a rough neighborhood where lots of my school friends were not allowed to visit me. So Shackrat became Rat...Just Dave is actually my legal alias from my time in the Thrash band Psychosis it's on everything. And I went way of track again but I already been smoking so Enjoy The Pumpkins!!

We have been on a bit of a Kansas kick at our home. I have been transferring my boots from a 5TB and a 4TB dive to a 22TB one. It's been a long process that is not quite finished. It however has been fun going through the archive finding shows that we forgot we had. Like this beautiful little item here. It's only 22 minutes long but it sounds Great yes with a capitol G!!! Every Kansas fan Definitely should download this show!!!!
I mean it every Kansas fan download this one here even if you have it in you're collection. Why? Because there is a little extra surprise inside since the show is so short!! What kind of surprise you ask? Here are a couple hints....Think unreleased demos...think vocalist Steve Walsh...think of the album released after Steve Walsh left Kansas...Think recordings made before Steve Walsh walked out....So if you guessed you are already downloading. If you haven't guessed you will find your answers will come to you at about 1MB per second when you download this great set!!

Wes Montgomery is a huge influence on the world of guitar players. He not only inspired countless Jazz Guitar Greats like John Scofield and Pat Metheny but the world of Rock Guitar as well. Case in point Bachman-Turner Overdrive's Randy Bachman. Consider some of the more Jazzy sections of the BTO catalog. I hear Wes Montgomery in every lick from "Looking Out For Number 1". Another great Jazz show I downloaded from BigO is on offer for our own Jazz On Sunday Morning. Christian McBride is one of the Greatest Jazz Sidemen Of All Time. He has worked with so many of the World Of Jazz's Greats just soaking up influence and style that when stepping out of the shadows he creates an eclipse. This show is just such an eclipse. With bass, 2 horns (or 1 and 1 woodwind) and drums, this group comes up with some great musical moments. Below is what BigO said about this show.
What BigO Said:
Christian McBride is an American jazz bassist. He is considered a virtuoso, and is one of the most recorded musicians of his generation; he has appeared on more than 300 recordings as a sideman. He is also a five-time Grammy award winner. McBride has performed with Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, John McLaughlin, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny, among others.

You may not like the Tony Martin era or Glenn Hughes era but I love every album they ever produced. Music is subjective, we love what we love. Never let anyone tell you what to like.
This is a kick ass show from the Tony Martin era, a Pre-FM recording to boot. Tony Martin held the front man position when a lot of Ozzy & Sabbath fans were throwing rocks at Tony Iommi for not giving up the ghost. Even Geezer Butler got into it by writing a song called "Give Up The Ghost" on his first solo album. The albums might not be Master Of Reality or Paranoid but they are great albums in their own right. I also think that the new mix of Forbidden sucks. I hate when a band changes the sound of a classic recording. Thank God the remaster of Born Again still has the same mix. The mix that influenced the Thrash Metal sound. The mix for Forbidden hits like a blunt hammer and influenced the Hardcore/Metalcore blunt force trauma production of today.

This is an upgrade to another Ozzy Osbourne post located on the blog here. It is an FM broadcast recording, this is a Pre-FM source. This is also uncensored and the broadcast recording has quite a few bleeps to cover swearing. This also has all the shows interviews with band and audience members. The FM recordings links are still good, I just checked them, so if you would like to compare for yourself, you can.

Notes On Remaster:
1. Speed correct.
2. Re-balance Tonality/EQ.
3. Correct channel imbalances.
4. Reduce hiss, clicks, pops and excessive claps.
5. Adjust dynamics.
6. Repair tape flips.
7. Create stereo image for brief mono segments.
8. Remove or reduce disruptive yelling by audience (sit down)
Notes:
1. "Sit down" yelled frequently, similar to the Yes concert in August, 1977 at the same venue.
2. Brief periods of mono suggesting splice for tape repair.
You can never go wrong with a Dan Lampinski recording just like with Mike Millard. When PRRP gets involved in remastering a show...it becomes the best version it can be. So here we are, the PRRP Remastering of this Classic show.
In Rosebud and My humble opinions, this version of this show is a must have. I have the original master and even that one would have been a must have. It's the performance as well as the recording. Kansas are on FIRE!!! The performances and the arrangements are phenomenal!! It's a You really have to hear it yourself thing. Any Kansas fan will be blown away by this show!
