Like many my introduction to Jean-Luc Ponty was through his work with Frank Zappa and Mahavishnu Orchestra. I am also a fan of his solo out put. This fabulous recording is an excellent show case of Jean-Luc's talent. Jean-Luc has made a name for himself in the worlds of Jazz, Rock, and New Age Music with a reputation for a keen sense of composition.

During the long interview Marcus Miller says that the guys only had 3 days to rehearse and on the first day they didn't play 1 note. They just talked about their memories of Miles and what he meant to them personally.

This is a great sounding recording of an awesome performance. If your a fan of Mile Davis' music, or a fan of any of the gentlemen who make up this group, or just awesome Jazz music, download this show now!!

Hancock, Shorter & Miller are Living Legends in Jazz, all of which are known for awe inspiring shows. Their debt to Miles Davis is readily recognizable in their musical efforts. That debt is also recognized by the men themselves who will admit it at a drop of a hat. This is a fabulous tribute to a Jazz Pioneer so don't miss out on this one.

This FM recording catches Jazz Legend Jean-Luc Ponty early in his solo career. This is some awesome Jazz Fusion here so my often over used phrase of highly recommended is going to be applied here as well. If you've never listened to Jean-Luc Ponty before this is a perfect bootleg to get an idea of his early music. Jean-Luc wears his musical influences on his sleeve at this time of his career. His compositions echoing his musical lessons during his tenure with Frank Zappa and Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Jazz legend Jean-Luc Ponty has always been a favorite of mine and this performance is quickly becoming a fave as well. At this festival performance Jean-Luc is backed by a 17 piece band. It's a very good quality recording that simply must be heard. To hear these songs done with such big arrangements is like candy for your ears. I got this from a really nice Jazz boot site called Jazz Boot Experiment . If you grab the occasional jazz boot from me and you want to expand you jazz collection Jazz Boot Experiment is a good place to start.

Before and during the Olympic Games quite a few cultural events took place including the Jazz Now Festival and the Solo Now! Concert. John McLaughlin took part in both. At Solo Now! John performed with just an acoustic guitar, at Jazz Now! of course he performed with Mahavisnu Orchestra. This nice recording comes from a bootleg DVD with impeccable sound and video quality. The last track ends early but the rest of the performance lows fine.

Some notable things that happened at the 1972 games was swimmer Mark Spitz setting a record for winning 7 Gold Medals which stood till swimmer Michael Phelps won 8 in 2008. Australian swimmer Shane ould won 3 Gold Medals, 1 Siver Medal, and 1 Bronze. Shane was just 15 years old. The USA lost in the basketball final to the USSR under much controversy, ending with the USA Team refusing to accept their Silver Medals which are still in Switzerland to this day.

The 1972 Olympics are remembered mostly for the tragic deaths of 9 Israeli athletes. The Games were suspended during and for 24 hours after the attacks for a Memorial Service and then the Olympics continued.

In August 1972, while the city of Munich was hosting the Olympic Games, the organizers also put on a series of cultural happenings. Part of this offering was the Jazz Now! Festival which took place from 17th to 20th August. On 19 August the concert at the Herkules Saal was entitled Solo Now! and consisted of solo performances by Albert Mangelsdorff, Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Jean-Luc Ponty and John McLaughlin.

John also took part in the Jazz Now! Festival performing with Mahavishnu Orchestra. That performance is also available on this blog. This is a very clean sounding recording, every note is audible. John performs some very tasty stuff here too. John covers some of his favorites of the Jazz Greats, then finishes off with his own composition.

This may not be the correct date, I chose it because Type O Negative were most likely on their World Coming Down Tour. I came to that conclusion because they play "Everyone I Love Is Dead". Peter Steele had issues with the material on World Coming Down stating they were "..too strongly connected to an uncomfortable period in his life." So songs from that album were under represented in live sets after the World Coming Down Tour. The band played March 9, 1999 on the Road Rage Tour and November 1, 1999. So these are also possible dates.

This is one of the best sounding Soulfly shows that I have heard. The band is in fine form as always, playing both Soulfly and Sepultura tracks. When Max left Sepultura he took the Tribal Inluenced Neo-Metal sound of Roots and ran with it to great effect. Soulfly has gone through many line-up changes as Max prefers to keep the membership fluid. This is so that he may experiment with different sounds, with different players.

This is an awesome DIO show, and a nice sounding recording. DIO was on tour to promote the second DIO album The Last In Line. Holy Diver & The Last In Line were both certified Gold a month before this recording was made. DIO had made his move from fired/former Black Sabbath vocalist to fronting his own band. He was riding high on a wave of success, while Black Sabbath by 1984 had slipped into hiatus after The Born Again Tour ended with Ian Gillan returning to Deep Purple, and a failed attempt to replace him with Dave Danato (a story for another post). Fellow former Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne was also riding high with the success of Bark At The Moon. So download this show to hear this version of the DIO band at their collective peak!

This is Living Colour's first live radio broadcast and the first in the series WBCN Live at TT the Bears. This is a small club gig, Living Colour would soon graduate to much bigger venues, but this is still pretty early in their career. "Cult of Personality" was just starting to break as a single at this time. The band has to enter and exit through the crowd, at the end of the set where the band would leave for an encore break Corey remarks that they can't get through the crowd so they were just going to keep playing. The band rips through the set which includes covers of The Clash and Chuck Berry. The surprise highlight is a cover of folk singer Tracy Chapman's "Talking About A Revolution". This is a must have!!

Living Colour became the standard bearer for the Black Rock Coalition. The B.R.C. was just that, a conglomerate of African American Rock/Hard Rock bands focusing on promoting the fact that African Americans still play Rock And Roll. Corey Glover once said that after rap broke as a viable genre record labels didn't want to know black people still played Rock And Roll so The B.R.C was formed to self promote these bands.

It's interesting that Corey would have a hard time getting his band attention from the media seeing that he already had an acting career. Actors have been able to get their inner rock star attention for a long time. Does anyone remember Don Johnson's Heartbeat, Stevie Ray Vaughan actually played on that disasterpiece ! To be exact on the songs "Heartache Away" & "Love Roulette".

Black Sabbath is widely considered to be the fathers of the beast we all love to call Heavy Metal. Ian Gillan once said that until Sabbath came along the heavy groups thought being heavy meant playing louder. Judas Priest is credited with defining the modern Metal sound as well as the metal uniform of studs and leather. The band is in fine form on this recording proving they deserve the title of Metal Gods. The set list is awesome, you still get classics like "Tyrant" & "Beyond The Realms Of Death", plus "Solar Angels" & "Dessert Plains" which are not played much after this tour. The sound quality is great but a little crisp on the high end as most Pre-FM recordings are EQed to compensate for the FM signals natural cutting of a recordings high end.

Hair/Glam Metal band Warrant were going for a heavier darker feel with there 1992 release Dog Eat Dog. While a critical success, sales were not as good as the bands previous albums. Released during the Grunge explosion, it only sold 500,000 copies - compared to Cherry Pie's 2 million. The band would go on a short hiatus after the Dog Eat Dog tour, not releasing an album until 1995. The band went through many changes throughout the years, culminating in the departure of Jani Lane in 1994. Lane was replaced by former Black And Blue vocalist Jaime St. James. In 2008, St James left and Jani Lane returned then departed again this time being replaced by present vocalist Robert Mason. Sadly, Jani Lane died of acute alcohol poisoning August 11, 2011 - he was just 41 years old. Download this show now to hear Warrant during what many critics and fans consider their artistic peak.

Industrial Metal band Prong on the road promoting their Cleansing release. Cleansing contained Prong's only radio hit "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck". It also was their biggest commercial hit reaching #129 on the Billboard Hot 200. When the 1996 follow up LP Rude Awakening failed to sell as well as Cleansing Prong were dropped by their label and disbanded, a return wasn't until 2000. I saw Prong on the Cleansing Tour in Detroit. The band stood at the doors and greeted every person who walked through the door with a hand shake saying "Hi we're Prong thanks for coming to see us". All four members shook each persons hand, I have attended many concerts and have never before or since been personally greeted at the door by the band.
