This is a perfect recording to be the first Gentle Giant post on The NewJDP. This is a great sounding recording with good stereo seperation and a nice bass sound. Since Rosebud has posted 2 shows from Queen for her salute to her favorite vocalists I figured I would have a spotlight on Progressive Rock. So Gentle Giant are post 1 of that tribute.

ReplyDeleteGreat post, thanks for that.
Hope you're fine and well in a "sleeping" city!
Doing fine here Major! hope all is well with you and yours. Glad you're enjoying the Gentle Giant post. I plan on posting more from the lesser known (to classic rockers) prog-rock bands so more of that stuff to come!

Even the safe space we had over the year slowly changes into a hot spot everything's fine.
DeleteGentle Giant is one of my fav' bands and often was (as Kevin Coyne or The Can) a good bridge for in starting a new friendship. When I kicked of most of my ProgRock-preferences in the midth 70ies replacing them by more PubRock, Punk, Reggae or Westcoast stuff, they and King Crimson always stood solid as a rock. Real great band!
You know, when I was going through my Punk & Thrash days in the 1980's I forgot about the Prog section of my collection. It was the blah music of the 1990's that returned me to my Prog Rock favorites. My one hold out through that was King Crimson as well. For me something about King Crimson makes them stand up right along side the Heaviest Metal and the Hardest of Hardcore. Sitting with friends I used to follow Slayer's Reign In Blood with Crimson's In The Wake Of Poseidon or Starless And Bible Black. Always brought up conversations about the musical genius it took to make such music. Great band indeed!
