Well this year keeps cranking out the hits. The extended time between posts this time was the unexpected crashing of my computer. Thing was working fine, I shut it off, then went back later to work again and the big bad blue screen say that booting up was unsuccessful. This was the 2nd computer I had die on me in 2020. My "download machine" quit working a couple months ago (I think the power supply went). So not wanting to spend the money on a new power supply (or tearing into it without doing some modifications) I started using my music computer (built mainly for music editing and listening). So it went down.
When I bought it I was like oh HP support assistant software included, ok. It includes a built in recovery system. It took a little time but I figured out how to get the recovery system to work but finally had the system rebooted. The recovery system resets the operating system to original factory so I had to re-install my programs. I got the system up and running like it just came out of the box. It crashed 2 more times. It was really frustrating to have finished just to have it not boot up the next day.
I think I have it figured out, each time it happened was shortly after my computer ran the Windows 7 Roll Out Update For 2020. I've come to believe that the damn thing has a time bomb in it to make Windows 7 fail so you have to upgrade to Windows 10. Apple did it more than once, Bill Gates is not above anything to make a dollar.
Anyway we have some new stuff posted. More Experimental/Improvisational Jazz from Nels Cline Singers this time with the addition of The Rova Saxophone Quartet. Another Third World Jazz show from Jon Hassel & Maarifa Street.
A double dose of Ronnie James Dio for Rosebud's Salute to Her Favorite Singers. A 3 CD set that collects together 3 Hammersmith Oden shows. Also a 3 CD set of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow rehearsing for their 1976 World Tour.
For my salute to Prog-Rock another show from ELP side project 3's only US tour. Then a Jem of a boot with 2 Classic British Prog Bands Caravan & Gong (a British/French outfit actually).
We also have our first post from Detroit's Was(Not Was). A music project from famous producer Don Was. This is a classic BBC broadcast and is offered in tribute to lead vocalist Hillard "Sweet Pea" Atkinson who died May 5, 2020 from a heat attack.
Then for good measure we threw in a 2018 Rock Hard Festival appearance from Uli Jon Roth.
That's It For Now!
JustDave & Rosebud
Hope everything is working again my friend.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting there Speedy, thing crashed again this morning. Looks like I have to get in touch with the guy who built my download computer. See what he says. What happens is after a certain update runs I get a blue screen that says Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft and I should either switch to Windows 10 and/or buy a newer computer. Neither is a financial option at this point or my other computer would be back on line (it only needs a power supply). My computer guy is a Borg when it comes to computers. He's one hell of a hacker who has one of those computer set ups you see in movies it's amazing. He should be able to fix it. I just hate going back to Detroit. He still lives in the neighborhood I grew up in. It's a real bad part of town. I'm still at home there but Rosebud grew up in a gated subdivision. A reality far removed from mine and it just makes her nervous. No worries though I'll get it worked out. Talk to you my friend.

Hang in there my good friend! And say a prayer that Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada go blue.
DeleteWe've been praying for that every since we sent in our absentee ballots. We had to vote absentee because of the cancer, Rosebud could bring covid back home to me too of course. We been so careful not chance my exposure to it. I only go to my Doctor appointments. Rosebud does all the shopping.
DeleteNow about Michigan, Michigan has been declared for Joe Biden so 1 step closer. Trump has filed a lawsuit to stop the counts here...let him as of now Biden has a lead so go ahead and stop them. Look if he was sure he was going to win, he wouldn't be filing lawsuits in all the cities that are still counting. At this moment he feels on the ropes. Lets pray it's not just his narcissistic paranoia talking. You know Bill Maher predicted it would be a close race and Trump would refuse to acknowledge the results and not leave the White House. He said this in 2016, I'm curious to see how far Trump will actually make this prediction come true. Funny the one Trumper that was still leaving immature comments has gone silent. The people that left threats stopped when they realized I wouldn't approve their comments. Anyway, you hang in there because in the words of Dino "...it's going to be groovy, groovy, groovy."
Keep Praying For The Blue

It was a very good day. I want to thank you my good friend for all the moral support while we went through this election cycle. It was a long wait to it's conclusion, it weighed pretty heavy on me. Thank you for that support it really help.
DeleteSleep well tonight my good friend. I know I shall.

Sorry to hear about all the problems you've had this year. Keep moving forward! It's all we can do!
ReplyDeleteHey thanks Silentway! we'll just call it a comedy of errors. All we can do is "keep on keepin' on". It's what I tell my youngest son like his mom he really sweats the little stuff. I got the machine moving again, just took a little bit more time than I would have liked 4 reboots to find the update from Windows that conflicted with everything. I hid it then Windows downloaded it 3 more times. I told my virus software it was a virus and it won't let it be downloaded anymore. Not to be all conspiracy theory guy but it had me thinking about how Apple was caught slowing down phones so people would buy new ones. Bill Gates screw someone over to make a buck, nah ha ha ha.

Awwww man! Yes - this sounds SO 2020!!! Sheesh. It's been a rough year for me too - out of work for the first time in years, and a family of four to feed. But we have to stay optimistic that the ship will right itself.
ReplyDeleteI hope your computer woes get better. In the meantime, your recent posts look awesome, especially the Was Not Was - thank you. Good luck, JD and Rosebud!
Thanks Taylor! things are looking good on the computer scene. Took some work and a little bit of time but I think we have it figured out. Thank you for the well wishes. Hope you enjoy the Was(Not Was), I have a couple more from them that I will be sharing in the future. I hope things get better for you and your family.

Yeah those end of life "Final Updates" poison. I have not used a MS update in its distributed form since 2010. And I got to miss all these problems. I still have a couple of XP machines alive and working as well. Chrome hates em.
ReplyDeleteMy "download machine" still runs Vista Business. It's the one I use for downloading things of the web or torrents. Works great but the power supply died. I'm holding off on buying one at the moment. I had already ordered a new 16TB external hard drive because I am running out of storage space. I already had a total of 14TB (one 8TB, one 5TB & one 1TB) but like I said was running out of space. I have a download addiction. ha ha ha

Power supplies are pretty much plug and play I have used dell in HP and Gateways and vice versa. I salvage RAM, Pwr Supplies and Hard drives from any machine I find. It has saved me a lot of money and gave me many learning opportunities along the way. Good luck with your machines. And Yes external storage is a must I picked up a Seagate back up+ with 6 Terras for 100 USD last black friday. Best move I made.
ReplyDeleteYou know what man, I have another tower in my basement. It was given to me by my daughter when she left for Japan. She said it quit booting up told me if I could fix it I could keep it. I actually did not know that a power supply was pretty much plug and p[lay. I'll have to pull it and see if it fits. Thanks analogkid that might get my download machine back up and running. By the way a 6TB Seagate for 100 USD, good deal. I been using Seagates for a while now. I have a 1TB that I literally dropped on the cement floor of my basement and it still works. Hey thanks again for the info on the power supplies.

No problem my friend it was the first thing I learned to do in the hardware. I Had a HP and it died and I had a stripped dell I found and Wham bam we up and running. SATA HD's are actual plug play and you can Hot swap em. Hardware is far easier to mess with than software. I would raid a trash pile of comps at a recycle place and build. Free and fun. Tell me what machines your playing with and I can be very specific. I enjoy sharing my experience with old comps. Its almost as fun as sharing music.
