This is a great collection of outtakes from the long career of the Motor City's Favorite Son Bob Seger. Bob Seger released his first single "Ballad Of The Yellow Beret" b/w "It's Florida Time" as the vocalist for local Detroit band Doug Brown & The Omens in 1966. The song was a parody of Sgt. Barry Sadler's hit "Ballad Of The Green Beret" and a slam against draft dodgers. Bob went solo soon after and released "East Side Story" b/w "East Side Sound" with his own group Bob Seger & The Last Heard. Under The Last Heard moniker Bob would release 4 more singles. When the band was picked up by Capitol Records they changed the name to The Bob Seger System. The Bob Seger System released 3 albums Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, Noah, and Mongrel before Bob went solo in 1971 with the "Lookin' Back" single. After that Bob released the Brand New Morning album. Brand New Morning featured Bob singing and playing either piano or acoustic guitar. The album is long out of print and Bob actually insists it never be re-released. Seek it out it is a fantastic listen. Bob Seger's career took of when he released the Beautiful Loser album. From there a string of hit albums would follow and the world learned what Detroit knew for a long time....Bob Seger could really rock!

We had a repost request for this box set. A lot of what is on here is on the newer box sets I post about a week ago. Some tracks may not be on those boxes, I haven't compared them track by track.

D'Ling now... thanks so much Dave, this looks fantastic! (Can't wait to see what's on the bonus CD) Really enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome Ray! And thank you, I'm glad you are enjoying the blog. Hope you enjoy the bonus material..the tracks on it are a little in the grey area so were left unmentioned, but I will say some are from when Bob was just a local musician trying to make it in the business.

Your archive is always bringing forth a share that I had not noticed before. As always thankx much.

You're welcome analogkid, this is a favorite of mine. I am a huge fan of Bob Seger having grown up waist deep in the Detroit music scene.
