Nice sounding recording. If you like the pairing of Chick Corea & Gary Burton you will enjoy this show too. Makoto Ozone's playing is different from Chick Corea's but Gary's vibes mesh with his playing just fine.

Fight was a favorite of mine, to me it sounded like Judas Priest on steroids. The band was even heavier sounding live. I caught them at Harpo's Concert Theatre in Detroit, Michigan (a pit of a concert theater actually). There are some that say Rob Halford's solo material was far away from the Metal sounds of Judas Priest. The only album not in the same formula as Priest was 2wo. 2wo was an Industrial-Metal Project with John5 on guitar and Trent Resner of Nine Inch Nails producing. I actually looked forward to that project, because an Industial-Metal band with Rob Halford screaming over it sounded like an interesting proposition. The fact is that Rob actually under sang the songs, while Resner's production removed the balls from the music. The result was an unvaried sounding record that sounded as if the singer could really give a shit about the songs. I don't listen to it very often but it still gets some play.

JustDave Notes:
Due to the covid-19 pandemic the Wacken Open Air Festival was canceled. However Wacken did go through with a "virtual festival" with artists broadcast on TV live for viewers at home.
I converted the MKV file to MPEG-2 with Pazera Free MKV to AVI Converter to make a DVD. I then used Goldwave to convert the MPEG-2 into a 16bit/48Hz wave, to edit tracks and to make fade in/fade outs where needed. The original MKV had lossy audio so I used Trader's Little Helper to encode the waves to MP3 320kbps.
Great show from Ice-T and Body Count from the Virtual Festival of 2020. Love the fact that they open with Slayer's "Post-Mortum / Reigning Blood". It really sets the tone for a very heavy performance.

A nice recording from The Police on their Ghost in the Machine Tour which ran from October 1, 1981 to September 6, 1982. Now I'm not 100% positive that Yngwie J. Malmsteen played guitar at this show or not but the original up-loader named the line-up as if he was so that's what we are sticking with here. If so Malmsteen would be replaced soon by Steve Vai after an on stage fight with Graham Bonnet over Bonnet supposedly messing with Malmsteen's amp during his guitar solo. The problem actually being 2 stars who don't want to give up a bit of their spotlight. Too bad because it was a good pairing of talents all though I am more of a fan of Steve Vai than Malmsteen (this being based on the fact that as a Detroit musician I have had the chance of meeting both guitarists). My experience was Malmsteen was a bit of a jerk while Steve Vai was a real nice guy. Others may have had different experiences with both so...

The DVD had lossy audio so the waves were encoded to MP3 320kbps using Trader's Little Helper. The tape sound shows a little age but is a damn good listen. "Cure Me Or ... Kill Me" and "Tijuana Jail" from Gilby Clarke's Pawnshop Guitars solo album.
The story is that Slash presented these songs to Axl Rose for a Guns n Roses album. Axl turned them all down saying they were no good. After the Snakepit debut album, It's 5 O'clock Somewhere, was released Axl sued Slash over the songs (too much bullshit went on with Axl). The album kicks some major ass! It also kicks Chinese Democracy's ass (I've listened to Chinese Democracy just once and then shelved it).

Short set but any soundboard recordings from King's X are worth collecting. King's X is "One Of Those Great Should Have Been So Much Bigger" bands. They are often called a musicians band, because of the many famous fans they have. Even Slayer front man Tom Araya calls King's X one of his favorite bands and that he and the rest of Slayer listen to King's x regularly on there tour bus. There is a saying "Even God Listens To Slayer". Well there should be one that says "Even Slayer Listens To King's X." I absolutely love there blending of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal with vocal harmonies, and great hooks that would make The Beatles jealous.

One of my favorite bands, really. Sunn O))) play a style of Heavy Metal called Drone Doom. Think a VERY Heavy Metal variation of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music or The Nels Cline Singers. I love to smoke some really good weed, put Sunn O))) on, turn on the sub woofer, set in the sweet spot between the speakers and just float. I feel as if I am floating along on this primal wave of sound. I have seen people at Sunn O)) concerts lie down on the floor to better feel the vibrations run through their body. Sunn O))) have collaborated with other Noise/Drone Music Artists like Boris and Merzbow as well as Black Metal Artists such as Xasther, Leviathan and Attila Csihar, vocalist for Mayhem & Tormentor. This is a great way to get a taste of what Sunn O))) are all about. PLAY VERY LOUD FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT!!

Muti-Talented, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Nick Anderson's Garage Rock band The Hellacopters are one of my all time favorite bands. This Swedish Garage Rock band plays the genre so well that they were made Honorary Members of The Detroit Garage Rock Scene by none other than Scott Morgan of The Rationals & Sonic's Rendezvous Band. This is an awesome performance from a reunited Hellacopters, Nick took time of to form another Death Metal band called Death Breath amongst other musical side ventures. The Hellacopters are broken up again but Nick formed Imperial State Electric to carry on that Garage Rock sound. He also reunited with his first Death Metal band Entombed amongst other musical side ventures. Nick Anderson seems unable to sit still with releases from over 12 bands in his long busy career.

Another fine performance from the reunited 1990s Alt-Hard Rock giants Live. A younger cousin of mine introduced me to Live's music. Rather fitting as her mother was my Aunt Red who played a large part in my musical education. The Aunt who introduced me to Frijid Pink when I was just 5 years old (I met them at a rehearsal of theirs). I in turn introduced her daughter Panacea to Thrash Metal and Punk music as well as all my Detroit Metal & Punk Scene friends. Anyway Panacea played me the debut album Mental Jewelry and I was hooked. As a Metal Head I felt my choice was vindicated when Kerrang Magazine gave the album I do believe 5 out of 5 star review (it may have been a 4 out o 5).

Brant Bjork is a Stoner Rock/Metal Icon. He was a founding member of Kyuss, played a huge part in The Desert Sessions, played drums for Fu Manchu, was in Kyuss Lives! (the short lived Kyuss reunion without Josh Homme), Vista Chino (Kyuss reunion offshoot), was in Mondo Generator, founded the trio Stöner, he has also carved out one hell of a respectable solo career having released 15 solo albums. I was introduced to Tom Petty's music trough a Punk Rock Friend of mine when I was in Junior High School. We had skipped school to go to his place and smoke some weed. He pulled out Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (the self titled debut) and said "Dave, this guys no bullshit attitude towards Rock & Roll is gonna make him a either a song writers musician or a big star, not sure which." By time the album ended I new one thing, I was going down to the local record shop to grab that album the next day.

justdave's notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to raise the volume, separate tracks and add fade in/fade out where necessary. The source DVD had lossy audio so the waves were encoded to MP3 320kbps with Traders Little Helper.
The only flaw in the recording is that "Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" fades in right at the start. Very little of the performance is missed. On the cover art track 15 is named "Tiny Dancer", the song is actually "The Bitch Is Back"

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to raise the volume, index tracks, and add fade in/fade out where necessary. The DVD had lossy audio so the waves were encoded to MP3 320kbps using Trader's Little Helper. The audio does have an audible amp hum in between songs. Since it isn't heard during the performance I did not attempt to remove it.
This is a fabulous show, and a great addition to any Collector's shelves. Frank Marino was going to tour in 2020 but was cancelled due to covid-19. In 2021 his tour was rescheduled only to be cancelled again. gThis time due to Frank suffering from an ailment he said was a career ending. Turns out Frank is battling chronic pain in his shoulder and can not play his guitar at all. Very saddening news indeed. Hopefully a good doctor can get it under control for him.
