JustDave's notes:
- These are all complete songs not like "When I Come Down" or "The Rebel" which were bits of complete tracks. These are demos submited to labels for consideration. The Black Sabbath sounds, vibes and tones were still embrionic at this point.
- "Blue Suede Shoes" is the Carl Perkins song made extra famous due to an Elvis Presley cover version. While it sounds like the version on the Musicladen performance it has extra "speaking" before and after by I'm assuming Ozzy.
- "Song For Jim" was used by Earth and early Black Sabbath as the live vehicle for Bill Ward's drum solo. They would use both flute and guitar live.
- "Wicked (Demo)" is the demo version of "Wicked World" and uses the lyrics that Ozzy sings on the Live At Last version.
- "Warning" is an early demo version of the song that would end up on Black Sabbath's first album.

Hi Dave. This is Bob. A few important notes about this release. #1. "Blue Suede shoes" is not an Earth demo. It is Black Sabbath performing in 1970 for the German TV show "Beat Club." #2. "Wicked World" is also not an Earth demo. This version of "Wicked World" is the same version that appears on their first album with two differences: A. There is a middle section on this version that was edited out for the album version. B. It is presented in mono rather than stereo; presumably to make us think it's a demo when it isn't. #3. The other seven songs are legit Earth demos, however, they play slightly fast. To get the correct speed, match the speed of the demo version of "Warning" with the album version, then you can hear the demo tracks at their correct speed. Interestingly enough, the two tracks that aren't Earth demos play at the correct speed; further confirming that they aren't part of the actual Earth demos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bob.
