JustDave's Notes:
- Huge Thank You To Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending me his vinyl to encode!
- Thank you also to Draftervoi, Sam Elliot's Mustache and avnut for input and assistance!

Run Out Grooves:
Side A : KB-464-A MCR JOE
Side B : KB-464-B MCR JOE
Side C : KB-464-C MCR JOE

Known Faults:
- One small section during "Talking To Myself" that has a pop in the same section for one quarter of the song. This was dealt with in editing.

Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove test tone at the beginning of Side A for radio stations to set balance and output levels before broadcast. It was not encoded.
- There are two locked groove show promos at the end of Side A. They have been encoded and moved to the end of the recording.

Editing Notes:
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth, Pressure & Antiskid Dialed In: Soundcard stereo field maximized: Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served situation.
- As with all King Biscuit shows I've edited so far, the commercials had a maked difference in volume to the music. Volume was adjusted to match the body of the show.

Other Notes:
- I don't know how many Greg Kihn Band shows I have edited but with each one I have become more of a fan.
- This show to me just seems that much better than the others. Maybe the band is just having a great show. You can tell the band is really having a good time at this show.
- I noticed in particular bass player Steve Wright's noodling over the riff is a little more inspired than before. For a great example just listen to the beginning of "Valerie" where the bass player and guitar player are interacting with each other playing around with the riff.
- Trivia note: The beginning drum beat to Little Richard's "Keep A-Knockin'" is what John Bonham was trying to play when he came up with the intro-beat to Led Zeppelin's "Rock N' Roll".

  1. Not sure many of us remember, but in the early-eighties Greg Kihn and his band put on a righteous show. After '83, he (and they) seemingly disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.

    1. They were more of a regional thing before and after their 1983 run of hit singles. They were still active in the Western States around California where they were from. Greg Kihn became a radio host and an author. He played concerts up till around 2019. Greg Kihn died in 2024 from Alzheimer's complications. Which means he was performing with the disease until he couldn't no more.

  4. Thank you for this show! Back When Mr. Kihn passed I posted this on another site. Posted this on another site- -
Bay area legend... indeed! Power pop essential songs for any playlist - "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" and "Jeopardy". A very nice and approachable guy. I was working as a waiter at the North Beach Restaurant in 1981 and was called in for a lunch shift. As I entered the "wine Cellar" room used for private events, I was greeted by posters of Greg Kihn and music merch all over the room. Soon, the record label and Greg and band arrived for a 3 hour press and lunch promo party celebrating the success of the "The Breakup Song" . It was a fun filled blast - I was 22 yrs old and the band and I were were the closest in age from the entire group. Wow - the flood of memories from hearing this news... R.I.P Mr. Kihn. You left us with some Great music and a legacy to admire.

    1. I'm doing good Speedy. I just have been kind of busy. My free time was taken up by doctor appointments which were check ups to make sure I'm still cancer free. I was also doing a lot of encoding work for The Collective Of Live Music. Which is a bootleg group I'm now in collecting and encoding as many Pre-FM shows as we can of all genres. Hope all is well in House Speedy!!
