Other Notes:
Host Phil Hendrie got his start in radio at WBJW Florida in 1973. As all DJs do he moved from station to station as his career grew. He soon developed a cast of characters that he voiced. Phil Hendrie became one of the many hosts that Westwood One would use over the years. He also is a voice over actor in commercials, animated shorts and features. His credits include Futurama and King Of The Hill. He now has a podcast called Truth Is Our Bitch.
The Greg Kihn Band were on tour promoting their Kihnspiracy LP. Kihnspiracy gave The band their 1st Top 10 Hit "Jeapardy" topping the sales of their previous Hit "The Break Up Song" which hit the Top 20.

Here is something that's actually a little rare and I didn't even know it! Our good friend Draftervoi informed me that the "Pop Concerts" from Westwood One are rare. He also told me that although this concert was used in other broadcasts, this is the longest version of this Greg Kihn Band show. It's cool having friends that know stuff LOL!!! He also helped out with pictures and a couple news paper ads for the show. The Chicago 1983 Pre-FM I recently posted from my collection is also from the Westwood One Pop Concert series. I also have one from Crosby, Stills & Nash from the Pop Concert Series I will encode when I find the vinyl in all the boxes. Since the move every thing from the music room is still in boxes. It's going to take a while to get it situated...

Thanks! - Just a Heads up - Both links FLAC and MP3 point to the same lossy mp3 files. I'll take it, love this band. cheers!
ReplyDeleteAfter Greg's passing in 2024, I posted this online at another site . - - " Oh no. Bay area legend... indeed! Power pop essential songs for any playlist - "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" and "Jeopardy". A very nice and approachable guy. I was working as a waiter at the North Beach Restaurant in 1981 and was called in for a lunch shift. As I entered the "wine Cellar" room used for private events, I was greeted by posters of Greg Kihn and music merch all over the room. Soon, the record label and Greg and band arrived for a 3 hour press and lunch promo party celebrating the success of the "The Breakup Song" . It was a fun filled blast - I was 22 yrs old and the band and I were the closest in age from the entire group"
ReplyDeleteHey Thank You for pointing that out. I have it fixed for you. Greg's not someone I ever met, I've heard from a lot of people that he was a real nice guy. Never heard anything bad about the guy from anyone I met in the business.

Yeah...the Westwood One Pop Concert & Specials do not turn up often...most are artist profiles or interview shows. Later they turned into the StarTrak Profile series, which was usually profiles but occasionally a live concert.
DeleteNow...Greg Douglass was in Country Weather, a local band from my home town of Walnut Creek...I saw him play at our high school gym.
I also digititized a solo tape of his at: https://voodoowagon.blogspot.com/search/label/Greg%20Douglass
Did not know about that one so I just grabbed it.
