justdave's notes:
I had ordered this recording from an online CD store but it never came. Now the site is closed. As fate would have it I went shopping at one of my favorite used CD stores and they had a copy. This store will copy any Bootleg CD that they receive then sell the CD afterward. They will also sell the copies for a smaller price than the original. That is how I obtained this copy. The CD-r I bought is most likely a 1st Generation copy but I have listed it as unknown generation since I am not 100% certain. I downloaded some art from Gig In Japan which has been included.

I included this in a Kansas download as a bonus but I kind of botched that so We figured lets just post them for you. Of course everyone knows Steve Walsh left Kansas over the Christian lyrics being written by Kerry Livgren. Steve was replaced with John Elefante. Kansas had already recorded some demos for Vinyl Confessions with Steve Walsh. These are those demos.

  1. I didn't know Steve Walsh sang any of those songs. It's a great album and Elefante can match Walsh's vocals and piano playing. He was a super replacement. The Elefante era is not posted much. Thanks for the share!

    1. You're very welcome Jim! I think Elefante was a great choice to replace Steve Walsh. You're right he can sound like Steve. I didn't know he had left the band when I first heard "Play The Game Tonight", I thought it was Steve Walsh till the DJ said it was John Elefante. Would you believe Sammy Hagar was called by the band before they found Elefante?

    2. Hagar as lead vocalist of Kansas? It would have been a shift in their sound since Hagar can't sing in Walsh's register (at least not from what I have heard on the Van Hager albums). Hagar probably declined because it's not his style of music. Hagar is a rocker, and not really a prog-rocker, but I don't know much about his career except for Montrose and Van Halen.

    3. Hagar says it didn't go past the first phone call. In an interview I watched He ran off a list of bands that called him that I can't remember. There are a couple that just stood out in my memory. Kansas, and Aerosmith after Steven Tyler quit to audition for Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones he said he refused to get into that argument. Would have changed the sound of either. I prefer Sammy's solo stuff and Montrose to the 1980s Van Halen stuff but that's just me. His solo albums are like Blue Oyster Cult studio albums. Never match the live feeling of the music but he wrote some great early Hard Rock songs. Like a lot of 70's Hard Rock bands powerful live but rather sterile or thin in the studio.

  2. I must have missed the boat with the Kansas stuff! This one is gone too.
