So I had planned on posting this a little while ago but with all the crap I went through with Blogger over Filefactory it wasn't posted. This is a very nice recording from Frank Zappa's 1976 Tour. The cool thing for me is that Frank has Grand Funk Railroad drummer Donny Brewer play drums on "Dinah Moe Humm".
Frank Zappa produced Grand Funk Railroad's final studio album with original bassist Mel Schacher. The band had already broken up after the release of the album Born To Die. Grand Funk wanted Fank Zappa to produce the album but it didn't happen. When Frank Zappa admitted interest in producing an album by Grand Funk Railroad the band reunited just to record with Frank!! The resulting Good Singin' Good Playin' actually had Frank Zappa playing lead guitar on the instrumental track "Out To Get You". This was the last Grand Funk recording at their own studio "The Swamp" in Fenton Michigan. The swamp is still in operation. My band Psychosis were lucky enough to have recorded our debut album there. When I told my guitar player that Frank Zappa had recorded in the very studio we stood in it seemed to put that little more to his playing we would get from him live, Frank being one of his biggest influences.

I am a very big fan of Frank Zappa. Another great recording shared by JDP. Thank you friends.
ReplyDeleteAnother official recording should be released in June, period "Mothers 68'".

I will have to keep my eye open for that one. I have the 4CD 5oth anniversary edition of Over-Nite Sensation...it's long but what a great package.

For reasons beyond my ken, it wouldn't let me download. Told me to buy premium if i wanted it.
ReplyDeleteThere have been over 100 downloads of the file already. You are the first to tell me that the file could not be downloaded. I checked the file and downloaded it again myself. I do not even have a pay account myself. Just scoll down to the button that says download slow speed press the button do the I'm a human test then press download. Let me know what happens.

Ah, it's coming down now. I've been experiencing similar gremlins in the works for a while. If i didn't know any better, i'd just blame this crap phone, but really, i have no explanation. My apologies, and many thanks to you.
DeleteNo apologies necessary Richie I'm just glad you are getting the music (I would have set you up with some kind of temp link if you couldn't) Hope you get the gremlins out!

Thanks Dave!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Gman! I am so glad I found this release because I had a cassette copy of the show in my box. Unfortunately it did not survive the abuse of just laying in a box in my basement. Enjoy the Zappa!

Loving this era of Zappa! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome ex_mixer! I have a pretty big collection of Zappa boots that I will be sharing. I'm a pretty big Zappa fan, this show being from right in my backyard I have a soft spot for it.
