JustDave's Notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to add a fade in and fade out at the beginning and end of the show. I also re-edited some track marks. No EQ or Noise Reduction was used. No remastering or remixing was done. The sound is pretty good, maybe a little muddy in bottom end, but a good listen. The show had lossless audio so it is available in both Flac Level 8 & MP3 320kbps.
The set has a nice collection of Fleetwood Mac & solo material. Stevie also includes a cover of Tom Petty's "I Need To Know". Listening to this show brings back memories of my first car, graduating, and my first experience at being on tour. Looking back it was a terrible mess, but I wouldn't go back and change anything. We were one of the early bands in the growing Underground Power/Speed/Thrash Metal scene. It was hard getting bands like us in the more upscale clubs where all the "cover bands" played. Our bands however had to play the sleaziest dives you could think of. We got the Gay Bars (not all were in bad neighborhoods but they booked Punk bands a lot!), Biker bars (2 things seem universal at biker bars love of Motorhead and Waylon Jennings) and a lot of Teen Clubs (bars that lost liquor licenses). All of which seemed to be exclusively in the worst parts of town. One place was so bad they had armed guards with dogs walking people to and from the parking lot! The bands had to have someone in their bus/truck/van/station wagon at all times to guard against theft.
Okay I will get on with the good part.

Ah...I was in a rockabilly outfit in '82/'83 in San Francisco. We got a gig down the Peninsula in San Carlos at some dodgy club...one of those joints where the address is part of the name, somethin' like the "1136 Club" and the address is 1136 Industrial Road. Classy.
ReplyDeleteWe pull up to this joint in our van, and there's line of choppers out front, and the one on the outside, the one you can see the best, has a kustom coffin shaped gas tank, painted red, white and black, and yeah, you guessed it, it's the Nazi flag. I thought we were gonna die.
At the first break, we got a request from a man named "Dirty Dick" asking us to play "Johnny B. Goode." We didn't know the song, but we went out and performed it after the break.
Ahh...the good ole days right my friend!? At a recent family get together I meet my nephew's new wife. His father, my younger brother had worked for my band. When I met this girl she kept asking question after question about my time in music. I asked her is this all you husband told you about me. She told me it's all any of my family told her about me. She then asked if I miss it. I told her ever minute of every day.

I wasn't actually a musician, I was a fan who wanted to be in a band and made it happen. I got good enough that a non-musician would think I could play, though. I'm glad I did it; If I hadn't, I would have spent my life thinking "maybe." Instead, I learned my limitations...and as a great philosopher once said, "A man's got to know his limitations." Good times....yes!
DeleteHa ha ha, if you're playing Rock & Roll E, A, B, will never let you down. I fumble with a bass and that's how I fake it E, A, B, you need no other chords then just fumble through the changes. I tell this a lot but there was a musical background in my family. My Grandfather was a Jazz drummer who had sat in with Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. My Gramps used to Jam at any USO or enlisted man's club he found through out WWII. He was Navy and was stationed either in the Philippines or one of the other islands. He met my Grandmother at a USO Club she had gone out dancing with her friends. Grandma said Gramps was "looking for his weekend pass under every girls skirt and thought he could find it in mine." It's burned into my brain it's kind f a little too much info but what can you do. Anyway my Grandparents lived with us for a long time and my earliest memories are sitting on his lap learning how to hold drumsticks and use my cymbals. I play drums..but I was always a vocalist during my actual career. I got into my band Psychosis by working as a drum & guitar tech for a year or two. They were a trio but wanted a vocalist. After days of auditions and they said no one was right my wife says "So since every one sucked why don't you give my old man a try." So we did like 5 tunes and that's how I got the job. They got a singer without having to get to know someone new.

Oh man, you guys are awesome. I love old gig stories! I remember, we used to play this one certain biker bar in Northwest NJ. they loved us there, but it was a really rough joint. I had been playing gigs for many years, but I could never get my Sister to come out and see us play. so, she finally comes to a gig, and it is at this particular biker bar. Well, wouldn't you know it...A guy and his girlfriend get into a loud argument at the bar, and the dude picks up a glass and smashes it over his girlfriend's head. Needless to say, my Sister never came out to see us again. We also played at a sleazy place that was a normal hangout for the local KKK, and one night we had to keep playing while the cops busted in and hauled a bunch of people out in a drug bust. I also had the unique pleasure of having to play a whole night's show while everyone sat with their backs to us, watching OJ's low-speed car chase on TV. Good times! Keep on rockin'! -Bob
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your stories with us Bob...there will definitely be more from me, it's something I just can't stop talking about.

Okay, Bob, I gotta ask...WHERE in Jersey? While I'm a Bay Area guy, my mom (99 1/2 years old!) is from Belleville, near Newark, and my uncles settled down in the area around Wayne.
