Great sounding Jazz Tribute To The Grateful Dead. The group has been together for some years and has had a few line-up changes but they always kick ass. There are a few shows in circulation, this one was my first taste of the band. You can't miss with members of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, & Dixie Dreggs. I don't really know much about Widespread Panic (didn't they have a radio hit in the 1990s?) but keyboardist Jimmy Hearing does an awesome job. Throw in guest appearances by Merl Saunders (the show's opening act as well) and Jeff Mosier, well you get the point. Download this awesome show now.

ah, thanks for that. great band! posted some of that on voodoo waggon, now the post is also here to be found. greetings from the her(m)etic garage ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Major Grubert, love the band myself. Will have to grab the show you have. I added your link to my blog roll. I wish you much success with it!

Requests will be welcomed. The show you just posted is new to me and I'll enjoy it this evening when an old friend comes visiting with a big box of "Heimatklänge Deep South"-tapes from 1998 in Berlin, most of them auditorium including two Eddie Bo shows, Rockin Doopsie and Clarence Gatemouth Brown
DeleteThe time-stamp of the 1998 Ziggy VQF btw. tells me that it's a download from 2001, the rest is more 2011/12 when my internet connection was more, um, "sophisticated" ;)
Sounds good! I'll have to get with you soon on that.

Just so you know, guitar players name is Jimmy Herring and he has played with the Allmans, Aquarium rescue unit, Project Z and has a few solo albums, great geetar player.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info Bennett, it's spelled wrong on the info text that I copied and pasted. I knew who Billy Cobham & T. Lavitz were but had to look up Jimmy Herring & Alfonso Johnson. The lead guitarist spot for Widespread Panic was the first thing listed by wikipedia for Jimmy with the rest of his very impressive resume afterwards. You are so correct that he is a great guitarist by the work I heard here. I am definitely looking forward to more of his work as I discover it. Thank yo for pointing out the miss spelling of Jimmy's name I'll correct that, you know I didn't even notice when Google told me the right spelling..ha ha..I was having so much trouble with the new Blogger interface that I didn't notice.
