It was quite shocking to wake up for work, turn on the news to get the weather and traffic report and find out that Chris Cornell had died right here in Detroit. The music of Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam were very important to me in the 1990's. I was going through a divorce, my music career was coming to an end, alcohol and depression ruled my days and nights. The lyrics of Chris Cornell seamed to speak to me and give me strength to carry on and clean up my life. This has been echoed by thousands of others. It's sad to think that such an inspirational lyricist as Cornell, able to give others a glimmer of hope, was so troubled that he couldn't find that strength himself. My prayers go out to his family and friends as they deal with the loss of their loved one.
I have made sure that all the Soundgarden links on The New JDP are working:
Westwood One Absolutely Live High Voltage #00-41
WDR 1 Rocknacht Philipshalle Düsseldorf, Germany April 16 1990
Seattle Scruffs
All have working links. I have also posted Soundgarden's appearance at Bremerton, Washington's 1992 Lollapalooza Festival, and a lossless version of Soundgarden's 1987 Demo.
Say Hello to Heaven, Chris.

ReplyDeleteWell said.
ReplyDeleteAs I live with depression myself, I couldn't have said it any better Dave. I saw Soundgarden perform at the Hard Rock in Vegas in 2011 and it's a memory I'll always cherish.
