Allegedly Eric Clapton's label intended on releasing a double live LP from the Phil Collins era. Many shows were recorded and tracks were selected. The label shelved the idea because the Crossroads Box Set was finished and label executives felt a live album would draw sales away from the box set. Bootlegs from these soundboards have been released, several of which are claimed to be the "Unreleased Live Album" this is one of those. The performances on this album are top notch and the sound is clear with little audience noise. Every Clapton fan should add this double CD set to their collection.

Just Dave - Hope all is well with you and Rosebud! I was at the April 27, 1987 show at Madison Square gArden, which was one of the shows taped for the never released album. Its also one of the numerous soundboards from the tour that circulate. I was front row, behind stage, directly behind Phi Collins on drums. Eric came behind stage several times to play for those of us in the cheap seats and he couldn't have been more than 10 feet away from us. The BAdge into Let It Rain segue that night was the show's highlight for al of us in the crowd and look s like the folks who were putting together the live album must have agreed, as both those are listed on the disc! Take care!

All is great here, just had a visit from my grandson and daughter this week (she lives in New York). Thanks for sharing your memories with us. I have never seen Clapton live (sadly) so I'm a little jealous (lol). Hope all is well in the House Of Speedy!

Just Dave - Thanks again for all you do!
ReplyDeleteBigOZine had this up last year in a 224 kbps version (although the lineage is the same). Two commenters on that post reported that Mark Knopfler also played guitar on the UK dates.

Thanks for the info, the BigO post was from the same source file, they just used a slightly lower encoding, it was the first version that I had until I found the flac online.
