In 1999 someone thought it would be a great idea to put Tori Amos and Alanis Morisette on tour together. When the 5½ Weeks Tour hit Las Vegas, NV it was filmed for a Pay Per View Special. This recording comes form a bootleg DVD of that show. Tori is in fine voice and except for 2 songs is accompanied by a backing band of bass, drums, and guitars. Tori blows the lyrics to "Professional Widow" and leads the band on a little improv of "Things Fuck Up" before launching back into the song. During "The Waitress" a drunk heckler annoys Tori to the point where she shouts at the unruly person to perform a certain sex act on her, then continues on without missing a beat.

Thanks for this one. It's a long time I did listen to Tori Amos. I recently bought her latest release Diving Deep Live and am happy to get back to her music. Always nice, when the sun goes down after a rainy day.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Paris,
You're welcome Derek. I've been a fan of Tori Amos since my daughter introduced me to her when she was just a teenager. I actually have a video tape of this show somewhere. My daughter wanted to watch it and I taped it. I need to locatye it and make a DVD and a lossless audio of it. So many things still packed away from the move.

This one is indeed a must-keeper with such a strange backing band. Quite uncommon. I'm burning it to CD right now and adding some nice artwork. Thanks again for this one !
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome my friend. This is one of my go to boots when I'm looking for some live Tori. I love the opening groove.

Not being a Tori fan, I originally passed on this one. That is, until I got 'round to reading your writeup about the show. So now I gotta check it out! Any chance that the Morisette set is out there somewhere? Thanks so much, G.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, if the Alanis portion is out there or not. I payed for the pay-per-view and taped the Tori Amos set on VHS (another thing I can not find since the move). As I recall the Alanis Morrisette set not being aired for some reason. I can't remember why.

I did an internet search and found the Alanis show on youtube. If I remember correctly, it said the venue was the Mandalay Bay Event Center. I can pull the audio down and share that with you if you'd like.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! That would be great, some of my Metal Head friends would actually freak if they new I liked Alanis Morrisette. Her song "You Outta Know" came out just after my divorce from my 1st wife. It hit a nerve we will say. By the way Email me I have some thing for you.....
