justdave notes: I bought this 2 record pre-fm vinyl set at the same time I bought the 1983 Chicago set I posted earlier, the DJ cue sheet was missing for this set as well. Each disc was treated with Pfan-Stat No. SA-14, and the Discwasher Zerostat Positive Ion Gun prior to play. They where played on a Sony PS-LX300H turntable to a Sony RCD-W500C CD Recorder using the Super Bit Mapping function. The resulting CD-R was ripped with Exact Audio Copy. The waves were imported to Goldwave V.5.04 for pop/click fix, track seperaton, and fade in out as needed.I only use 1 passive run of Goldwaves pop/click fix, since agressive noise reduction can impare sound quality. The waves were then converted to flac level 8 with Traders Little Helper aligning all sector boundaries.
I removed all the commercials, so there are fades between tracks 4 & 5, 7 & 8 and 10 & 11. Track 15 is a pre show promo. I also included a scan of record one side one. The band line up is a best guess for this time period, after checking on-line sources.

Hey, Dave! Long time, no talk! Hope you're doing well! I just ran across a Rock n' Roll Mystery and I'm hoping you can help solve it! A copy of PC-83-17 came up for sale on Ebay, attributed to Chicago, so I snapped it up...I figured it was really this Kihn show, incorrectly labeled. But it is indeed really Chicago...I did a quick needle-drop on side 1 and side 4 and there's no doubt it's Chicago and not Kihn. The disc label is identical to yours. There's no cue sheet. The run out groove etchings say WPS 83-17-A, B, C...etc. Do you still have your copy, and if so, can you check the run out groove etchings and let me know if they match the disc label number?
ReplyDeleteI had three sets of records from Westwood One out of a box of Pre-FM vinyl that my father bought for me on E-Bay that were actual concerts the rest were artist spotlight kind of things. The concerts were Chicago, Greg Kihn Band and Crosby, Stills & Nash. I encoded the concerts did the quick scans and put the records back in a box. I have the box, it is in my basement. It will take a little time to find it but I will start looking. It's possible I have the scans credited to the wrong shows. I have the scan for Greg Kihn as the PC-83-17 label and PC-83-15 for the Chicago show. Looks like I didn't scan the CSN label for some reason because I just have a pic of the group with that flac set. I will let you know once I have located the records (give me just a couple days on that not more than 3)
DeleteHey, Dave! That could be the solution to the mystery! Don't rush, man, we're in no hurry here! I run across this with my own work all the time; this is a hobby, not a profession! Good to hear from you, btw, and as always, feel free to re-circulate anything I post over at Voodoo Wagon! I put up a Paul Rodgers set a few weeks back; I tried to send you an email about it but I don't think it got through...as I remember that your wife likes Paul Rodgers...if you can't find it, send me at email!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, I'll have to check Voodoo Wagon, been trapped in this work home work home routine and haven't actually downloaded much lately...yes my Rosebud loves Paul Rogers, he is her favorite vocalist, well him and David Bowie, definitely will have to check that Paul Rogers out for her.
