Taken from a tape recorded by my Rosebud a long time ago. The tape has long since degraded so bad that it is no longer playable. The Almighty Strut were a Sleaze Rock/Metal outfit from the Detroit Music Scene. They made a few live broadcasts on WLLZ, 2 from The Ritz in Roseville, and this one from Traxx in Detroit. The Almighty Strut had 3 regional hits "Cheep Thrill Looks", "Undercover", and "Jamie's Eyes". Drummer Gunner Ross has gone on to play with quite a few other acts, most notably Ted Nugent. Guitarist Charlie Huhn has gone on to front Foghat after the death of Lonesome Dave Peverett.

Bitter Sweet Alley rode the New Rock wave to local prominence, with the regional hit "Time To Move". New Rock is what the critics called rock bands that came out after the New Wave explosion of the 80's. This WRIF 101 FM broadcast is from before their one album actually was released. Lead vocalist Gary Spaniola went solo after the LPs release, and has since become a producer of local acts. I downloaded this from Napster when Napster was still new and before Metallica ruined it.

Great soundboard recording from Public Enemy's tour in support of their 7th studio release, There's a Poison Goin' On. Original DJ Terminator X was not along on this tour. He had been in a serious motorcycle accident in 1994 which shattered his left leg. While recuperating he bought a farm in North Carolina. By the year 1998 Terminator X decided to leave Public Enemy to raise African black ostriches. At this show DJ Johnny "Juice" Rosado is substituting behind the turntables.

Nice sounding FM recording from Gibson Guitar's 100th Birthday Celebration. An all-star cast of guitarists, all sponsored by Gibson, throw down some great Rock & Roll in praise of the world famous six string. CD 1 is made up of The Gibson All-Stars with various vocalists, as well as the bands Skin, Thunder, and Pride & Glory. CD 2 is Paul Rodgers jamming with an exceptional cast of guitar players. Nice sounding recording from Gil Scott-Heron and the Midnight Band at the legendary Bottom Line Club in New York City. After a long spoken intro Gil opens the show with the poem "New Deal". After the poem The Midnight Band comes on stage, and the music portion of the show begins with the drum heavy "Gumbai". Gil is in fine form as he and the band give a fantastic performance to a very lucky intimate audience.

Seduce fought their way out of the Detroit Music Scene to larger heights than any other local 80's Metal act. Seduce actually appeared in the Heavy Metal documentary The Decline And Fall Of Western Civilization: The Metal Years, and had a song, "Coleen", on the soundtrack. Their second album Too Much Is Not Enough, was released to a national audience on a major label. Unfortunately the bands lifestyle of excess is rumored to be the reason for their break up. Seduce does surface from time to time for reunion shows, but Chuck Burns has moved on fronting Detroit band Speedball.

This is the second in what will be a series of posts I will be making to spotlight the Motor City Music Scene. This show was originally offered in 24 bot only but I am also posting a 16 bit option. 24 bit is suitable for burning an audio DVD while the 16 bit is best for a CD.

Although they first started jamming together in Tulsa Oklahoma U.S.A, Teegarden & Van Winkle didn't take off commercially till they migrated to Detroit Michigan. The duo was formed out of necessity when Rockabilly singer Gene Crose, who they were backing, didn't show up for a gig. After relocating to Michigan, the Detroit Rock Scene accepted them with open arms. Bob Seger used the duo as his backing band for the Smokin O.P's album and tour. The song "We Believe In God, Love, & Rock and Roll" became a regional hit before breaking into the National Top Ten. The band released several albums including one recorded while under the influence of hypnotherapy.

Slayer on tour to support their second full length, Hell Awaits. The new album was hailed by critics as more mature and progressive than Show No Mercy, the bands debut. Slayer was just what their label Metal Blade Records needed. Metal Blades records would usually sell about 15,000 units. Slayer's debut sold about 40,000 units world wide. Label head Brian Slagel wisely financed a better recording studio and producer the the previous releases. The gamble paid off, the album has now sold over  a million units world wide and is considered a Thrash Metal classic. Slayer was signed to Def-Jam after the success of Hell Awaits, resulting in Metal history.

Rosebud and I saw Black Sabbath 4 times in 1999. They played The Palace of Auburn Hills twice in February with Pantera, then twice at Pine Knob Amphitheater for Ozzfest. We were at the first Auburn Hills show when I proposed marriage to Rosebud. We were married in June and went to Ozzfest both days for our honeymoon. No lie! We would go every year after that for our anniversary (we attended every Michigan Ozzfest show from the very first to the last ever actually)
